- Kapitel 10 -

1
After Abimelech, Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, arose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.
2
He judged Israel twenty-three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

Jair

3
After him Jair, the Gileadite, arose. He judged Israel twenty-two years.
4
He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts. They had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth Jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

Oppression by the Philistines and Ammonites

The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, and served the Baals, the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. They abandoned the LORD, and didn’t serve him.
7
The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the children of Ammon.
8
They troubled and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9
The children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was very distressed.
10
The children of Israel cried to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against you, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baals.”
11
The LORD said to the children of Israel, “Didn’t I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12
The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand.
13
Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods. Therefore I will save you no more.
14
Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen. Let them save you in the time of your distress!”
15
The children of Israel said to the LORD, “We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, please, today.”
16
They put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17
Then the children of Ammon were gathered together and encamped in Gilead. The children of Israel assembled themselves together and encamped in Mizpah.
18
The people, the princes of Gilead, said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

Tola

Nach Abimelech erhob sich als Führer in Israel Thola, der Sohn Phuas, des Bruders des Vaters Abimelechs, ein Mann aus Issachar, der in Samir im Gebirge Ephraim wohnte.

Dieser richtete Israel dreiundzwanzig Jahre, starb und ward in Samir begraben.

Jair

Auf diesen folgte Jair, der Galaadite, welcher Israel zweiunddreißig Jahre richtete.

Er hatte dreißig Söhne, die auf dreißig Eselsfüllen ritten und Fürsten von dreißig Städten waren, welche nach seinem Namen Havoth Jair, das ist Städte Jairs, bis auf diesen Tag genannt werden, im Lande Galaad gelegen.

Und Jair starb und ward an dem Orte, der Kamon heißt, begraben.

Israel wieder unterdrückt

Die Söhne Israels aber fügten zu den alten Sünden neue hinzu, und taten, was in den Augen des Herrn böse war, und dienten den Götzen, den Baalen und Astarten, und den Göttern von Syrien und von Sidon und von Moab, und der Söhne Ammons und der Philister; und sie verließen den Herrn und verehrten ihn nicht.

Da zürnte der Herr wider sie und überlieferte sie in die Hand der Philister und der Söhne Ammons.
8
Und alle, die jenseits des Jordans wohnten, im Lande der Amorrhiter, die in Galaad sind, wurden bedrängt und hart bedrückt achtzehn Jahre lang,
9
dergestalt, dass die Söhne Ammons den Jordan überschritten und das Gebiet von Juda, und Benjamin, und Ephraim verheerten; so dass Israel sehr hart bedrängt ward.
10
Da riefen sie zu dem Herrn und sprachen: Wir haben wider dich gesündigt, dass wir den Herrn, unsern Gott, verlassen und den Baalen gedient haben.
11
Der Herr sprach zu ihnen: Haben nicht die Ägypter, und die Amorrhiter, und die Söhne Ammons, und die Philister,
12
und die Sidonier, und die Amalekiter und die Chananiter euch bedrückt? Und habt ihr nicht zu mir geschrien und ich habe euch aus ihrer Hand errettet?
13
Und doch habt ihr mich verlassen und fremde Götter verehrt; darum will ich euch ferner nicht mehr erretten.
14
Gehet hin und rufet die Götter an, welche ihr erwählt habt; diese mögen euch zur Zeit der Bedrängnis erretten.
15
Da sprachen die Söhne Israels zu dem Herrn: Wir haben gesündigt, vergilt uns, wie es dir wohlgefällt; nur errette uns jetzt.
16
So sprachen sie und schafften alle Bilder fremder Götter aus ihrem Lande hinweg und dienten Gott, dem Herrn. Und der Herr hatte Mitleid mit ihrem Jammer.
17
Die Söhne Ammons aber riefen einander zusammen und schlugen ihre Zelte in Galaad auf; da versammelten sich die Söhne Israels gegen sie und lagerten sich in Maspha.
18
Und die Fürsten von Galaad sprachen zueinander: Wer von uns zuerst den Kampf mit den Söhnen Ammons beginnt, der soll der Fürst des Volkes von Galaad sein.
