A Psalm from the Exodus

1
In the going out of Israel from Egypt, || The house of Jacob from a strange people,
2
Judah became His sanctuary, || Israel his dominion.
3
The sea has seen, and flees, || The Jordan turns backward.
4
The mountains have skipped as rams, || Heights as sons of a flock.
5
What is [ailing] you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, you turn back!
6
O mountains, you skip as rams! O heights, as sons of a flock!
7
From before the Lord be afraid, O earth, || From before the God of Jacob,
8
He is turning the rock to a pool of waters, || The flint to a fountain of waters!

Alleluja! Als Israel aus Ägypten auszog, Jakobs Geschlecht von fremdem Volke weg,

ward Juda sein Heiligtum, Israel seine Herrschaft.

Das Meer sah es und floh, der Jordan wich zurück.
4
Die Berge hüpften wie Widder und die Hügel wie junge Lämmer.
5
Was ist dir, Meer, dass du fliehest, und dir, Jordan, dass du zurückweichst?
6
Euch, ihr Berge, dass ihr hüpft wie Widder und ihr, Hügel, wie junge Lämmer?
7
Vor dem Antlitze des Herrn erbebte die Erde, vor dem Antlitze des Gottes Jakobs,
8
der den Felsen in Wasserseen verwandelt und die Steine in Wasserquellen.
