- Kapitel 3 -

(Leviticus 10:1–7)
1
And these [are] the generations of Aaron and Moses, in the day of YHWH’s speaking with Moses in Mount Sinai.
2
And these [are] the names of the sons of Aaron: the firstborn Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar;
3
these [are] the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whose hand he has consecrated for acting as priest.
4
And Nadab dies—Abihu also—before YHWH, in their bringing strange fire near before YHWH, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they did not have sons; and Eleazar—Ithamar also—acts as priest in the presence of their father Aaron.

The Duties of the Levites

5
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
6
“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and you have caused it to stand before Aaron the priest, and they have served him,
7
and kept his charge, and the charge of all the congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the Dwelling Place;
8
and they have kept all the vessels of the Tent of Meeting, and the charge of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the Dwelling Place;
9
and you have given the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are surely given to him out of the sons of Israel.
10
And you appoint Aaron and his sons, and they have kept their priesthood, and the stranger who comes near is put to death.”
11
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
12
“And I, behold, have taken the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn opening a womb among the sons of Israel, and the Levites have been Mine;
13
for every firstborn [is] Mine, in the day of My striking every firstborn in the land of Egypt I have sanctified to Myself every firstborn in Israel, from man to beast; they are Mine; I [am] YHWH.”

The Numbering of the Levites

14
And YHWH speaks to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,
15
“Number the sons of Levi by the house of their fathers, by their families; every male from a son of a month and upward—you number them.”
16
And Moses numbers them according to the command of YHWH, as he has been commanded.
17
And these are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.
18
And these [are] the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.
19
And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, and Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
20
And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi; these are the families of the Levites, by the house of their fathers.

The Gershonites

(Numbers 4:21–28; 1 Chronicles 23:7–11)

Of Gershon—the family of the Libnite and the family of the Shimite; these are the families of the Gershonite.
22
Their numbered ones, in number, every male from a son of a month and upward, their numbered ones [are] seven thousand and five hundred.
23
The families of the Gershonite encamp westward behind the Dwelling Place.
24
And the prince of a father’s house for the Gershonite [is] Eliasaph son of Lael.
25
And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting [is] the Dwelling Place, and the tent, its covering, and the veil at the opening of the Tent of Meeting,
26
and the hangings of the court, and the veil at the opening of the court, which [is] by the Dwelling Place and by the altar all around, and its cords, to all its service.

The Kohathites

(Numbers 4:1–20; 1 Chronicles 23:12–20)
27
And of Kohath—the family of the Amramite, and the family of the Izharite, and the family of the Hebronite, and the family of the Uzzielite; these are families of the Kohathite.
28
In number, all the males, from a son of a month and upward, [are] eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the holy place.
29
The families of the sons of Kohath encamp southward by the side of the Dwelling Place.
30
And the prince of a father’s house for the families of the Kohathite [is] Elizaphan son of Uzziel.
31
And their charge [is] the Ark, and the table, and the lampstand, and the altars, and the vessels of the holy place with which they serve, and the veil, and all its service.
32
And Eleazar son of Aaron the priest [is] the prince of the princes of the Levites, [with] the oversight of the keepers of the charge of the holy place.

The Merarites

(Numbers 4:29–33; 1 Chronicles 23:21–23)
33
Of Merari—the family of the Mahlite and the family of the Mushite; these [are] the families of Merari.
34
And their numbered ones, in number, all the males from a son of a month and upward, [are] six thousand and two hundred.
35
And the prince of a father’s house for the families of Merari [is] Zuriel son of Abihail; they encamp northward by the side of the Dwelling Place.
36
And the oversight [and] charge of the sons of Merari [are] the boards of the Dwelling Place, and its bars, and its pillars, and its sockets, and all its vessels, and all its service,
37
and the pillars of the court all around, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.

Moses and Aaron

38
And those encamping before the Dwelling Place eastward, before the Tent of Meeting, at the east, [are] Moses and Aaron, and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the sons of Israel, and the stranger who comes near is put to death.
39
All those numbered of the Levites whom Moses numbered—Aaron also—by the command of YHWH, by their families, every male from a son of a month and upward, [are] twenty-two thousand.

The Redemption of the Firstborn

40
And YHWH says to Moses, “Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a son of a month and upward, and take up the number of their names;
41
and you have taken the Levites for Me (I [am] YHWH), instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of every firstling among the livestock of the sons of Israel.”
42
And Moses numbers, as YHWH has commanded him, all the firstborn among the sons of Israel.
43
And every firstborn male, by the number of names, from a son of a month and upward, of their numbered ones, are twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.
44
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
45
“Take the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; and the Levites have been Mine; I [am] YHWH.
46
And [from] those ransomed of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the sons of Israel, who are more than the Levites,
47
you have even taken five shekels apiece by the counted head—you take by the shekel of the holy place; the shekel [is] twenty gerahs;
48
and you have given the money to Aaron and to his sons, whereby those over and above are ransomed.”
49
And Moses takes the ransom money from those over and above those ransomed by the Levites;
50
he has taken the money from the firstborn of the sons of Israel—one thousand and three hundred and sixty-five, by the shekel of the holy place;
51
and Moses gives the money of those ransomed to Aaron and to his sons, according to the command of YHWH, as YHWH has commanded Moses.

Die Söhne Aarons

(3. Mose 10,1-7)
1
Dies sind die Nachkommen Aarons und Moses, zur Zeit, da der Herr zu Moses auf dem Berge Sinai redete.

Und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Aarons: sein Erstgeborener Nadab, dann Abiu, Eleazar, und Ithamar.

Dies sind die Namen der Söhne Aarons, der Priester, die gesalbt, und deren Hände gefüllt und geweiht wurden, dass sie das Priestertum verwalten.
4
Nadab und Abiu jedoch starben ohne Kinder, als sie in der Wüste fremdes Feuer vor den Herrn brachten, und Eleazar und Ithamar verwalteten das Priestertum unter den Augen Aarons, ihres Vaters.

Die Leviten dienen in der Stiftshütte

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:

Lass den Stamm Levi herzutreten und sich vor das Angesicht Aarons, des Priesters, stellen, damit sie ihm dienen und Wache halten,
7
und alles, was für die Gemeinde vor dem Zelte des Zeugnisses zu tun ist, besorgen,
8
und die Geräte des Zeltes bewahren, den Dienst an demselben verrichtend.
9
Und du sollst die Leviten zu eigen geben
10
Aaron und seinen Söhnen, denen sie von dem Söhnen Israels übergeben wurden. Aaron aber und seine Söhne sollst du dazu bestellen, dass sie des Priesteramtes walten. Ein Anderer, der sich naht, dies Amt zu üben, soll sterben.

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:
12
Ich habe die Leviten von den Söhnen Israels herausgenommen, an Stelle aller Erstgeborenen, welche unter den Söhnen Israels den Mutterleib öffnen, und die Leviten sollen mir gehören.
13
Denn mir gehört alle Erstgeburt, seitdem ich die Erstgebornen im Lande Ägypten geschlagen habe; ich habe mir alles geheiligt, was als das erste in Israel geboren wird, es seien Menschen oder Tiere, es ist mein: Ich bin der Herr.

Befehl zur Volkszählung der Leviten

Und der Herr redete zu Moses in der Wüste Sinai und sprach:

Zähle die Söhne Levis nach den Häusern ihrer Väter und nach den Familien, alles, was männlich ist, von einem Monat ab und darüber.
16
Und Moses zählte sie, wie der Herr geboten hatte,
17
und es fanden sich als Söhne Levis die nachbenannten: Gerson, Kaath und Merari.
18
Die Söhne Gersons: Lebni und Semei.
19
Die Söhne Kaaths: Amram, Jesaar, Hebron und Oziel.
20
Die Söhne Meraris: Moholi und Musi.
(4. Mose 4,21-28; 1. Chronik 23,7-11)

Von Gerson stammten zwei Geschlechter: die Lebniten und die Semeiten;
22
die Gesamtzahl derselben, alles was männlichen Geschlechtes war, von einem Monate an und darüber, betrug siebentausend fünfhundert.

Diese sollen sich hinter das Zelt nach Westen zu lagern
24
unter Eliasaph, dem Sohne Laels, als Oberhaupt.
25
Und sie sollen die Aufsicht führen bei dem Zelte des Bundes,
26
und über das Zelt selbst, seine Decke und den Vorhang, der am Eingange des Zeltes des Bundes aufgezogen wird, über die Umhänge des Vorhofes, und über den Vorhang, der am Eingange des Vorhofes des Zeltes hängt, und über alles, was zum Dienste des Altares gehört, über die Seile des Zeltes und alle seine Gerätschaften.

Das Geschlecht Kaaths umfasste die Familien der Amramiten, Jesaariten, Hebroniten und Ozieliten. Das sind die Familien das Kaathiten, nach ihren Namen aufgezählt;
28
alle, welche männlichen Geschlechtes sind, von einem Monat an und darüber, achttausend sechshundert, sollen die Besorgung des Heiligtums haben
29
und sich gegen Süden lagern,
30
und ihr Oberhaupt soll Elisaphan, der Sohn Oziels, sein;
31
und sie sollen die Lade, den Tisch, den Leuchter, die Altäre und die Gefäße des Heiligtums, mit denen sie den Dienst verrichten, den Vorhang, und alle derartigen Gerätschaften bewahren.
32
Das Oberhaupt von den Anführern der Leviten aber, Eleazar, der Sohn Aarons, des Priesters, soll über die, welchen die Hut des Heiligtums anvertraut ist, gesetzt sein.
(4. Mose 4,29-33; 1. Chronik 23,21-23)

Von Merari aber stammten die Moholiten und Musiten ab, nach ihren Namen aufgezählt;
34
alle, die männlichen Geschlechtes waren, von einem Monat an und darüber, waren sechstausend zweihundert.
35
Ihr Anführer ist Suriel, der Sohn Abihajels; sie sollen sich auf der Nordseite lagern.
36
Unter ihrer Hut sollen die Bretter des Zeltes, die Stangen, die Säulen und deren Fußgestelle, und alles sein, was zum Dienste hierbei gehört;
37
ebenso die Säulen des Vorhofes ringsum mit ihren Fußgestellen, und die Pflöcke mit ihren Seilen.
38
Vor dem Zelte des Bundes, das ist auf der Ostseite, sollen sich Moses und Aaron mit seinen Söhnen, welche die Hut es Heiligtums inmitten der Söhne Israels haben, lagern; jeder andere, der sich naht, soll sterben.
39
Alle Leviten, welche Moses und Aaron nach dem befehle des Herrn nach ihren Familien zählten, alles, was männlichen Geschlechtes war, von einem Monate an und darüber, waren zweiundzwanzigtausend.

Leviten, die anstelle der Erstgeborenen geweiht werden

40
Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: Zähle die Erstgeborenen männlichen Geschlechtes unter den Söhnen Israels, von einem Monat an und darüber, und nimm ihre Gesamtzahl auf.
41
Und nimm die Leviten für mich anstatt aller Erstgeborenen unter den Söhnen Israels: Ich bin der Herr; und ihr Vieh soll die Stelle aller Erstgeburt des Viehes der Söhne Israels einnehmen.
42
Moses verzeichnete, wie der Herr geboten hatte, die Erstgeborenen unter den Söhnen Israels.
43
Und es waren männliche Erstgeborene nach ihren Namen, von einem Monate an und darüber, zweiundzwanzigtausend zweihundert und dreiundsiebzig
44
Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:
45
Nimm die Leviten an Stelle der Erstgeborenen der Söhne Israels, und das Vieh der Leviten an Stelle ihres Viehes, und die Leviten sollen mir gehören. Ich bin der Herr.
46
Zur Auslösung der zweihundert dreiundsiebzig Erstgeborenen aber, welche unter den Erstgeborenen der Söhne Israels über die Zahl der Leviten hinausgehen,
47
nimm je für den Kopf fünf Sekel nach dem Gewichte des Heiligtums. Ein Sekel hat zwanzig Obolen.
48
Gib das Geld Aaron und seinen Söhnen, als Auslösung für die Überzähligen.
49
Da erhob Moses das Geld für die, welche überzählig waren und die man von den Leviten losgekauft hatte,
50
an Stelle der Erstgeborenen der Söhne Israels, tausend dreihundert fünfundsechzig Sekel nach dem Gewichte des Heiligtums,
51
und gab es Aaron und seinen Söhnen nach dem Befehle, den ihm der Herr gegeben hatte.
