- Kapitel 10 -

(Numbers 3:1–4)

And the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, each take his censer, and put fire in them, and put incense on it, and bring strange fire near before YHWH, which He has not commanded them;

and fire goes out from before YHWH and consumes them, and they die before YHWH.

And Moses says to Aaron, “It [is] that which YHWH has spoken, saying, By those drawing near to Me I am sanctified, and in the face of all the people I am honored”; and Aaron is silent.

And Moses calls to Mishael and to Elzaphan, sons of Uzziel, uncle of Aaron, and says to them, “Come near, carry your brothers from the front of the holy place to the outside of the camp”;

and they come near, and carry them in their coats to the outside of the camp, as Moses has spoken.

And Moses says to Aaron and his sons, to Eleazar and to Ithamar, “You do not uncover your heads, and you do not tear your garments, that you do not die, and He is angry on all the congregation; as for your brothers, the whole house of Israel, they lament the burning which YHWH has kindled;

and you do not go out from the opening of the Tent of Meeting, lest you die, for the anointing oil of YHWH [is] on you”; and they do according to the word of Moses.

Restrictions for Priests

And YHWH speaks to Aaron, saying,

“You do not drink wine and strong drink, you and your sons with you, in your going into the Tent of Meeting, and you do not die—a continuous statute throughout your generations,

so as to make a separation between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the pure;

and to teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which YHWH has spoken to them by the hand of Moses.”

And Moses speaks to Aaron and his sons, to Eleazar and to Ithamar, who are left, “Take the present that is left from the fire-offerings of YHWH, and eat it unleavened near the altar, for it [is] most holy,

and you have eaten it in the holy place, for it [is] your portion, and the portion of your sons, from the fire-offerings of YHWH; for so I have been commanded.

And you eat the breast of the wave-offering and the leg of the raised-offering in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you; they have been given for your portion and the portion of your sons, out of the sacrifices of peace-offerings of the sons of Israel;

the leg of the raised-offering, and breast of the wave-offering, besides fire-offerings of the fat, they bring in to wave [as] a wave-offering before YHWH, and it has been to you, and to your sons with you, by a continuous statute, as YHWH has commanded.”

And Moses has diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering, and behold, it is burned, and he is angry against Eleazar and against Ithamar, sons of Aaron, who are left, saying,

“Why have you not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place, for it [is] most holy—and He has given it to you to take away the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before YHWH?

Behold, its blood has not been brought into the holy place within; eating you eat it in the holy place, as I have commanded.”

And Aaron speaks to Moses, “Behold, today they have brought their sin-offering and their burnt-offering near before YHWH; and [things] like these meet me, yet I have eaten a sin-offering today; is it good in the eyes of YHWH?”

And Moses listens, and it is good in his eyes.

Das profane Feuer von Nadab und Abihu

(4. Mose 3,1-4)

Und Nadab und Abiu, die Söhne Aarons, nahmen ihre Rauchfässer, und taten Feuer hinein, und legten Rauchwerk darauf, und brachten ein fremdes Feuer vor den Herrn, was ihnen nicht geboten war.

Da ging Feuer von dem Herrn aus und verzehrte sie, und sie starben vor dem Herrn.

Und Moses sprach zu Aaron: Das ist es, was der Herr gesprochen: Ich werde mich als heilig erweisen an denen, die mir nahen, und mich verherrlichen vor den Augen alles Volkes. Aaron hörte dies schweigend an.

Moses aber rief Misael und Elisaphan, die Söhne Oziels, des Vaterbruders Aarons, und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet, und nehmet eure Brüder aus dem Heiligtume hinweg, und schaffet sie vor das Lager hinaus.

Da traten sie sofort hinzu, und nahmen sie auf, wie sie da lagen, bekleidet mit den linnenen Gewändern, und schafften sie hinaus, wie ihnen geboten war.

Und Moses sprach zu Aaron und zu Eleazar und Ithamar, dessen Söhnen: Entblößet eure Häupter nicht und zerreißet eure Kleider nicht, dass ihr nicht etwa des Todes seiet und sein Zorn über die ganze Gemeinde komme. Eure Brüder und das ganze Haus Israel mögen den Brand beweinen, den der Herr entzündet hat,

ihr aber sollt den Eingang des Zeltes nicht verlassen, sonst werdet ihr umkommen; denn das Öl der heiligen Salbung ruht auf euch. Sie also taten alles nach Moses Befehl.

Vorgeschriebenes Verhalten für Priester

Hierauf sprach der Herr zu Aaron:

Wein und alles, was berauschen kann, sollst du und deine Söhne nicht trinken, wenn ihr in das Zelt des Zeugnisses tretet, damit ihr nicht sterbet; denn dies ist eine ewig gültige Vorschrift für euch von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.

Auch sollt ihr das Heilige von dem Unheiligen, das Reine von dem Unreinen zu unterscheiden wissen

und die Söhne Israels alle meine Satzungen lehren, welche der Herr ihnen durch Moses verkündet hat.

Und Moses gebot Aaron, und Eleazar und Ithamar, seinen Söhnen, die übrig geblieben waren: Nehmet den Opferanteil, der von dem dem Herrn dargebrachten Speiseopfer übrig geblieben ist, und esset ihn, ungesäuert, bei dem Altare, denn er ist hochheilig.

Am heiligen Orte sollt ihr das essen, was dir und deinen Söhnen von den Opfern des Herrn gegeben ward, wie es mir befohlen ward.

Das Bruststück sodann, welches dargebracht wurde, und das Schulterstück, welches abgesondert ward, sollst du und deine Söhne und deine Töchter mit dir an einer ganz reinen Stätte essen; denn für dich und deine Kinder sind sie von den Heilsopfern der Söhne Israels zurückgelegt;

dafür, dass sie das Schulterstück, die Brust, und das Fett, welches auf dem Altare verbrannt wird, vor dem Herrn erhoben haben, und sie sollen dir und deinen Kindern zufallen kraft eines ewig geltenden Gesetzes, wie der Herr geboten hat.

Als sich nun Moses nach dem Ziegenbocke umsah, der als Sündopfer dargebracht war, fand er ihn verbrannt. Da ward er zornig auf Eleazar und Ithamar, die Söhne Aarons, welche noch übriggeblieben waren, und sprach:

Warum habt ihr das Sündopfer nicht an heiliger Stätte verzehrt, da es doch hochheilig und euch gegeben ist, dass ihr die Verschuldungen des Volkes tragt und für dasselbe vor dem Angesichte des Herrn betet,

besonders, da nichts von seinem Blute in das Innere des Heiligtums gebracht worden ist und ihr es also an heiliger Stätte hättet essen sollen, wie mir geboten ward?

Da antwortete Aaron: heute ward das Sündopfer und das Brandopfer vor dem Herrn dargebracht; mich aber hat betroffen, was du siehst. Wie hätte ich es also essen, oder dem Herrn mit traurigem Herzen in seinem Dienste gefallen können?

Da Moses das hörte, gab er sich zufrieden.
