- Kapitel 14 -

And it came to passe that when he was entred into the house of one of the chiefe Pharises on the Sabbath day, to eate bread, they watched him.

And beholde, there was a certaine man before him, which had the dropsie.

Then Iesus answering, spake vnto the Lawyers and Pharises, saying, Is it lawfull to heale on the Sabbath day?

And they held their peace. Then he tooke him, and healed him, and let him goe,

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall haue an asse, or an oxe fallen into a pit, and wil not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?

And they could not answere him againe to those things.

The Parable of the Guests

He spake also a parable to the ghestes, when he marked howe they chose out the chiefe roomes, and said vnto them,

When thou shalt be bidden of any man to a wedding, set not thy selfe downe in the chiefest place, lest a more honourable man then thou, be bidden of him,

And he that bade both him and thee, come, and say to thee, Giue this man roome, and thou then begin with shame to take the lowest roome.

But when thou art bidden, goe and sit downe in the lowest roome, that when he that bade thee, cometh, he may say vnto thee, Friende, sit vp hier: then shalt thou haue worship in the presence of them that sit at table with thee.

For whosoeuer exalteth himselfe, shall be brought lowe, and he that humbleth himselfe, shall be exalted.

Then said he also to him that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friendes, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsemen, nor ye riche neighbours, lest they also bid thee againe, and a recompence be made thee.

But when thou makest a feast, call ye poore, the maimed, the lame, and the blind,

And thou shalt be blessed, because they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the iust.

The Parable of the Banquet

(Matthew 22:1–14)

Nowe when one of them that sate at table, heard these things, he said vnto him, Blessed is he that eateth bread in the kingdome of God.

Then saide he to him, A certaine man made a great supper, and bade many,

And sent his seruant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come: for all things are nowe readie.

But they all with one mind beganne to make excuse: The first saide vnto him, I haue bought a farme, and I must needes goe out and see it: I pray thee, haue me excused.

And another said, I haue bought fiue yoke of oxen, and I goe to proue them: I pray thee, haue me excused.

And another said, I haue maried a wife, and therefore I can not come.

So that seruaunt returned, and shewed his master these thinges. Then was the good man of the house angrie, and said to his seruant, Goe out quickely into the streetes and lanes of the citie, and bring in hither the poore, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blinde.

And the seruaunt saide, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is roome.

Then the master sayd to the seruaunt, Goe out into the hie wayes, and hedges, and compell them to come in, that mine house may bee filled.

For I say vnto you, that none of those men which were bidden, shall taste of my supper.

The Cost of Discipleship

(Matthew 8:18–22; Luke 9:57–62; John 6:59–66)

Nowe there went great multitudes with him, and he turned and sayd vnto them,

If any man come to mee, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters: yea, and his owne life also, he can not be my disciple.

And whosoeuer beareth not his crosse, and commeth after mee, can not bee my disciple.

For which of you minding to builde a towre, sitteth not downe before, and counteth the cost, whether hee haue sufficient to performe it,

Lest that after he hath laide the foundation, and is not able to performe it, all that behold it, begin to mocke him,

Saying, This man began to builde, and was not able to make an end?

Or what King going to make warre against another King, sitteth not downe first, and taketh counsell, whether he be able with ten thousande, to meete him that commeth against him with twentie thousand?

Or els while hee is yet a great way off, hee sendeth an ambassage, and desireth peace.

So likewise, whosoeuer hee be of you, that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Good Salt

(Matthew 5:13–16; Mark 9:49–50)

Salt is good: but if salt haue lost his sauour, wherewith shall it be salted?

It is neither meete for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.

Ein Mann mit Tröpfchenkrankheit am Sabbat geheilt

Und es geschah, als Jesus in das Haus eines Obersten der Pharisäer an einem Sabbate eintrat, um da zu speisen, beobachteten sie ihn genau.

Und siehe, ein wassersüchtiger Mensch war vor ihm.

Und Jesus nahm das Wort, und sprach zu den Gesetzesgelehrten und Pharisäern: Ist es erlaubt, am Sabbate zu heilen?

Sie aber schwiegen. Da fasste er ihn an, und ließ ihn von dannen gehen.

Und er wandte sich wieder an sie, und sprach zu ihnen: Wer von euch, dessen Esel oder Ochs in eine Grube fiele, würde ihn nicht sogleich herausziehen am Tage des Sabbats?

Und sie konnten ihm darauf nichts antworten.

Nehmt den niederen Platz ein

Er sagte aber auch zu den Geladenen ein Gleichnis, als er bemerkte, wie sie sich die ersten Plätze aussuchten, und sprach zu ihnen:

Wenn du zu einem Hochzeitsmahle geladen wirst, so setze dich nicht auf den ersten Platz, dass nicht etwa ein Vornehmerer als du von ihm geladen sei,

und derjenige, welcher dich und ihn geladen hat, komme, und dir sage: Mache diesem Platz! Und du alsdann mit Schande untenan sitzen müssest.

Sondern wenn du geladen bist, so gehe hin, und setze dich auf den letzten Platz, damit, wenn der, welcher dich geladen hat, kommt, er dir sage: Freund, rücke weiter hinauf! Dann wirst du Ehre haben vor denen, die mit zu Tische sitzen.

Denn ein jeder, der sich selbst erhöhet, wird erniedriget werden; und wer sich selbst erniedriget, wird erhöhet werden.

Zu dem aber, der ihn geladen hatte, sprach er auch: Wenn du ein Mittag- oder Abendmahl gibst, so lade nicht deine Freunde ein, noch deine Brüder, noch Verwandte, noch reiche Nachbarn, damit sie dich nicht etwa wieder einladen, und dir wiedervergolten werde;

sondern wenn du ein Gastmahl gibst, so lade Arme, Schwache, Lahme und Blinde ein;

und selig wirst du sein, weil sie dir nicht vergelten können; denn es wird dir bei der Auferstehung der Gerechten vergolten werden.

Das Gleichnis vom großen Abendmahl

(Matthäus 22,1-14)

Als dieses einer von den Tischgenossen hörte, sprach er zu ihm: Selig, wer im Reiche Gottes speisen wird!

Er aber sprach zu ihm: Ein Mensch bereitete ein großes Abendmahl, und lud viele dazu ein.

Und er sandte seinen Knecht zur Stunde des Abendmahls, um den Geladenen zu sagen, sie möchten kommen, weil schon alles bereit sei.

Es fingen aber alle insgesamt an, sich zu entschuldigen. Der erste sprach zu ihm: Ich habe ein Landgut gekauft, und bin genötigt, es anzusehen; ich bitte dich, erachte mich für entschuldigt.

Und ein anderer sprach: Ich habe fünf Joch Ochsen gekauft, und gehe nun hin, sie zu versuchen; ich bitte dich, erachte mich als entschuldigt.

Und ein anderer sprach: Ich habe ein Weib genommen, und darum kann ich nicht kommen.

Und der Knecht kam zurück, und berichtete dies seinem Herrn. Da ward der Hausvater zornig, und sprach zu seinem Knechte: Gehe eilends hinaus auf die Straßen und Gassen der Stadt, und führe die Armen, Schwachen, Blinden und Lahmen hier herein!

Und der Knecht sprach: Herr! es ist geschehen, wie du befohlen hast; aber es ist noch Platz übrig.

Und der Herr sprach zu dem Knechte: Gehe hinaus an die Wege und Zäune, und nötige sie hereinzukommen, damit mein Haus voll werde!

Ich sage euch aber: Keiner von jenen Männern, die geladen waren, wird mein Abendmahl verkosten!

Alles verlassen, um Christus zu folgen

(Matthäus 8,18-22; Lukas 9,57-62; Johannes 6,59-66)

Es ging aber viel Volk mit ihm, und er wandte sich zu ihnen, und sprach:

Wenn jemand zu mir kommt, und hasset nicht seinen Vater, und Mutter, und Weib, und Kinder, und Brüder, und Schwestern, ja auch sogar sein eigenes Leben, so kann er nicht mein Jünger sein.

Und wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt, und mir nachfolget, kann nicht mein Jünger sein.

Denn wer von euch, der einen Turm bauen will, setzt nicht zuvor hin, und überschlägt die Kosten, die erforderlich sind, ob er auch genug habe zum Ausbau,

damit nicht etwa, wenn er den Grund gelegt hat, und den Bau nicht vollenden kann, alle, die es sehen, ihn zu verspotten anfangen,

und sagen: Dieser Mensch fing an zu bauen, und konnte es nicht zu Ende bringen?

Oder welcher König wird gegen einen andern König ausziehen, um Krieg zu führen, ohne sich zuvor hinzusetzen, und zu überlegen, ob er mit zehntausend Mann dem entgegenrücken kann, der mit zwanzigtausend Mann gegen ihn kommt?

Kann er das nicht, so schickt er Gesandte, während jener noch ferne ist, und bittet um Friedensunterhandlungen.

So kann auch keiner von euch, der nicht allem entsagt, was er besitzt, mein Jünger sein.

Geschmackloses Salz ist wertlos

(Matthäus 5,13-16; Markus 9,49-50)

Das Salz ist etwas Gutes; wenn aber das Salz schal geworden ist, womit soll es gewürzt werden?

Weder für den Boden noch für den Dünger ist es zu brauchen, sondern man wirft es hinaus. Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre.
