- Kapitel 5 -

(Luke 17:11–19)

Now was there one Naaman captaine of the hoste of the King of Aram, a great man, and honourable in the sight of his lorde, because that by him the Lord had deliuered the Aramites. He also was a mightie man and valiant, but a leper.

And the Aramites had gone out by bands, and had taken a litle mayde of the land of Israel, and shee serued Naamans wife.

And she sayd vnto her mistres, Would God my lord were with the Prophet that is in Samaria, he would soone deliuer him of his leprosie.

And he went in, and tolde his lorde, saying, Thus and thus saith the mayde that is of the land of Israel.

And the King of Aram sayde, Goe thy way thither, and I will send a letter vnto the King of Israel. And he departed, and tooke with him ten talents of siluer, and sixe thousand pieces of golde, and ten change of rayments,

And brought the letter to the King of Israel to this effect, Now when this letter is come vnto thee, vnderstand, that I haue sent thee Naaman my seruant, that thou maiest heale him of his leprosie.

And when the King of Israel had read the letter, he rent his clothes, and sayde, Am I God, to kill and to giue life, that hee doth send to mee, that I should heale a man from his leprosie? wherfore consider, I pray you, and see howe he seeketh a quarel against me.

But when Elisha the man of God had heard that the King of Israel had rent his clothes, hee sent vnto the King, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall knowe that there is a Prophet in Israel.

Then Naaman came with his horses, and with his charets, and stoode at the doore of the house of Elisha.

And Elisha sent a messenger vnto him, saying, Go and wash thee in Iorden seuen times, and thy flesh shall come againe to thee, and thou shalt be clensed.

But Naaman was wroth and went away, and sayde, Beholde, I thought with my selfe, Hee will surely come out, and stande, and call on the Name of the Lord his God and put his hand on the place, and heale the leprosie.

Are not Abanah and Pharpar, riuers of Damascus, better then all the waters of Israel? may I not washe mee in them, and bee cleansed? so hee turned, and departed in displeasure.

But his seruants came, and spake vnto him, and sayd, Father, if the Prophet had commanded thee a great thing, wouldest thou not haue done it? howe much rather then, when hee sayth to thee, Wash and be cleane?

Then went he downe, and washed him selfe seuen times in Iorden, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came againe, like vnto ye flesh of a litle child, and he was cleane.

Gehazi’s Greed and Leprosy

And hee turned againe to the man of God, hee, and all his companie, and came and stood before him, and sayd, Behold, now I knowe that there is no God in all the world, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a reward of thy seruant.

But hee sayde, As the Lord liueth (before whom I stand) I wil not receiue it. And he would haue constrained him to receiue it, but he refused.

Moreouer Naaman sayde, Shall there not be giuen to thy seruant two mules loade of this earth? for thy seruant will henceforth offer neither burnt sacrifice nor offring vnto any other god, saue vnto the Lord.

Herein the Lord bee mercifull vnto thy seruant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon, to worship there, and leaneth on mine hand, and I bowe my selfe in the house of Rimmon: when I doe bowe downe, I say, in the house of Rimmon, the Lord be mercifull vnto thy seruant in this point.

Vnto whome he saide, Goe in peace. So he departed from him about halfe a dayes iourney of grounde.

And Gehazi the seruant of Elisha the man of God sayde, Beholde, my master hath spared this Aramite Naaman, receiuing not those things at his hand that he brought: as the Lord liueth, I will runne after him, and take somewhat of him.

So Gehazi followed speedily after Naaman. And when Naaman sawe him running after him, he light downe from the charet to meete him, and said, Is all well?

And he answered, All is well: my master hath set me, saying, Behold, there be come to me, euen nowe from mount Ephraim two yong men of the children of the Prophets: giue them, I pray thee, a talent of siluer, and two change of garmets.

And Naaman saide, Yea, take two talents: and he compelled him, and bound two talents of siluer in two bagges, with two change of garments, and gaue them vnto two of his seruants, that they might beare them before him.

And when he came to the towre, he tooke them out of their handes, and laide them in the house, and sent away the men: and they departed.

Then he went in, and stoode before his master. And Elisha said vnto him, Whence commest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy seruant went no whither.

But he saide vnto him, Went not mine heart with thee when the man turned againe from his charet to meete thee? Is this a time to take money, and to receiue garments, and oliues, and vineyardes, and sheepe, and oxen, and men seruants, and maide seruants?

The leprosie therefore of Naaman shall cleaue vnto thee, and to thy seede for euer. And he went out from his presence a leper white as snowe.

Naamans Aussatz geheilt

(Lukas 17,11-19)

Naaman, der Heerführer des Königs von Syrien, war ein angesehener Mann bei seinem Herrn und hoch geehrt, denn durch ihn wirkte der Herr in Syrien Heil; dieser Mann war tapfer und reich, aber aussätzig.

Nun waren einst aus Syrien Streifscharen ausgezogen und hatten aus dem Lande Israel ein kleines Mädchen als Gefangene weggeführt; dasselbe war bei dem Weibe Naamans im Dienste

und sprach zu ihrer Herrin: Wenn doch mein Herr bei dem Propheten gewesen wäre, welcher in Samaria ist; gewiss würde dieser ihn von dem Aussatze, den er hat, geheilt haben.

Da ging Naaman zu seinem Herrn, berichtete es ihm und sprach: So und so hat das Mädchen aus dem Lande Israel geredet.

Der König von Syrien sprach zu ihm: Ziehe hin, ich werde an den König von Israel einen Brief senden. Er also zog hin und nahm zehn Talente Silbers und sechstausend Goldstücke und zehn Festkleider mit sich

und brachte einen Brief an den König von Israel, der also lautete: Wenn du diesen Brief erhältst, so wisse, dass ich meinen Diener Naaman zu dir sende, damit du ihn von seinem Aussatze heilest.

Als der König von Israel den Brief gelesen hatte, zerriss er seine Kleider und sprach: Bin ich denn Gott, dass ich töten und lebendig machen kann, dass jener zu mir sendet, ich solle den Mann von seinem Aussatze heilen? Habet acht und sehet, wie er Händel mit mir sucht!

Als dies Eliseus, der Mann Gottes, hörte, nämlich, dass der König von Israel seine Kleider zerrissen habe, sandte er zu ihm und sprach: Warum hast du deine Kleider zerrissen? Lass ihn zu mir kommen, damit er erfahre, dass ein Prophet in Israel ist.

Naaman also kam mit Rossen und Wagen zu ihm und hielt vor der Tür des Hauses des Eliseus.

Da sandte Eliseus einen Boten zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: Gehe hin und bade dich siebenmal im Jordan, so wird dein Leib wieder gesund werden und du wirst rein sein.

Da ward Naaman zornig und zog von dannen, indem er sprach: Ich meinte, er werde zu mir herauskommen und den Namen des Herrn, seines Gottes, anrufen und mit seiner Hand die Stelle des Aussatzes berühren und mich so heilen.

Sind etwa Abana und Pharphar, die Flüsse von Damaskus, nicht besser als alle Wasser Israels, dass ich mich in diesen baden und rein werden soll? Als er sich nun wandte und unwillig davonging,

traten seine Diener zu ihm heran und sprachen zu ihm: Vater! Auch wenn dich der Prophet etwas Großes geheißen hätte, hättest du es gewiss tun müssen; wie viel mehr, da er nun zu dir gesagt hat: Bade dich, so wirst du rein werden!

Er zog also hin und badete sich im Jordan siebenmal nach dem Befehle des Mannes Gottes und sein Fleisch ward wieder so hergestellt, als wäre es das Fleisch eines kleinen Knaben, und er wurde rein.

Nun kehrte er mit seinem ganzen Gefolge zu dem Manne Gottes zurück und kam und trat vor ihn hin und sprach: Wahrlich, ich erkenne, dass kein anderer Gott auf der ganzen Erde ist als allein in Israel! Ich bitte dich also, nimm eine Segensgabe von deinem Diener an.

Jener aber antwortete: So wahr der Herr lebt, vor dem ich stehe, ich nehme sie nicht an! Und ob er gleich in ihn drang, tat jener dennoch nicht nach seinem Willen.

Da sprach Naaman: Wie du willst, aber erlaube mir, deinem Diener, so viel Erde mitzunehmen als zwei Maultiere zu tragen vermögen; denn dein Diener wird fortan fremden Göttern keine Brandopfer oder Schlachtopfer mehr darbringen, sondern einzig dem Herrn.

Nur in diesem einen Stücke mögest du den Herrn für deinen Diener um Nachsicht bitten: Wenn mein Gebieter in den Tempel Remmons geht, um daselbst anzubeten, und ich, während er sich auf meine Hand stützt, im Tempel Remmons mich zur Erde neige, wenn er sich an eben diesem Orte niederwirft, so wolle der Herr deinem Diener in diesem Stücke Verzeihung gewähren.

Jener sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin in Frieden! So zog er denn hin in der auserlesenen Zeit des Landes.

Gehasi's Habgier

Doch Giezi, der Diener des Mannes Gottes, sprach: Mein Herr hat diesen Syrer Naaman geschont, dass er nicht von ihm annahm, was jener brachte; so wahr der Herr lebt, ich will ihm nacheilen und etwas von ihm annehmen.

Giezi also ging hinter Naaman her. Als dieser ihn in Eile herbeikommen sah, sprang er von dem Wagen herab, ging ihm entgegen und fragte: Steht alles wohl?

Jener antwortete: Ja! Mein Herr sendet mich zu dir und lässt dir sagen: Soeben sind zwei Jünglinge vom Gebirge Ephraim zu mir gekommen, von den Söhnen der Propheten; gib ihnen ein Talent Silbers und zwei Feierkleider.

Naaman sprach: Es ist besser, du nimmst zwei Talente. Und er drang in ihn und band zwei Talente Silbers in zwei Säcke, dazu zwei Kleider und legte es zwei von seinen eigenen Dienern auf und diese trugen es vor ihm her.

Als er nun, schon abends, ankam, nahm er es aus ihren Händen, verwahrte es im Hause und entließ die Männer, die von dannen gingen.

Alsdann ging er hinein und trat vor seinem Herrn. Da sprach Eliseus: Woher kommst du, Giezi? Dieser antwortete: Dein Diener ist nirgendshin gegangen.

Jener aber sprach: War mein Geist nicht dabei, als der Mann von seinem Wagen stieg und dir entgegenging? So hast du denn nun Silber empfangen und Kleider erhalten, um Ölgärten und Weinberge, Schafe, Rinder, Knechte und Mägde zu kaufen,

aber auch der Aussatz Naamans wird dir und deinen Nachkommen immerdar anhaften. Jener ging von ihm hinaus aussätzig wie Schnee.
