- Kapitel 91 -

You are my refuge and my fortress

The Praise of a Canticle, of David. Whoever dwells with the assistance of the Most High will abide in the protection of the God of heaven.(a)

He will say to the Lord, “You are my supporter and my refuge.” My God, I will hope in him.

For he has freed me from the snare of those who go hunting, and from the harsh word.

He will overshadow you with his shoulders, and you will hope under his wings.

His truth will surround you with a shield. You will not be afraid: before the terror of the night,

before the arrow flying in the day, before the troubles that wander in the darkness, nor of invasion and the midday demon.

A thousand will fall before your side and ten thousand before your right hand. Yet it will not draw near you.

So then, truly, you will consider with your eyes, and you will see the retribution of sinners.

For you, O Lord, are my hope. You have set the Most High as your refuge.

Disaster will not draw near to you, and the scourge will not approach your tabernacle.

For he has given his Angels charge over you, so as to preserve you in all your ways.

With their hands, they will carry you, lest you hurt your foot against a stone.

You will walk over the asp and the king serpent, and you will trample the lion and the dragon.(b)

Because he has hoped in me, I will free him. I will protect him because he has known my name.

He will cry out to me, and I will heed him. I am with him in tribulation. I will rescue him, and I will glorify him.

I will fill him with length of days. And I will reveal to him my salvation.

Du bist meine Zuflucht und meine Festung

Lobgesang Davids. Wer unter der Hilfe des Allerhöchsten wohnt, weilt unter dem Schirme des Gottes des Himmels.

Er kann zu dem Herrn sagen: Du bist mein Helfer und meine Zuflucht, mein Gott, auf den ich vertraue.

Denn er befreit mich aus der Schlinge der Vogelsteller, und von Ungemach.

Mit seinen Schultern wird er dich decken und unter seinen Flügeln wirst du Hoffnung schöpfen.

Mit einem Schild wird dich seine Treue umgeben; vor den Schrecken der Nacht darfst du dich nicht fürchten,

nicht vor dem Pfeile, der bei Tage fliegt, vor dem Unheil, das im Finstern wandelt, vor dem Überfalle und dem bösen Geiste am Mittag.

Fallen auch tausend an deiner Seite und zehntausend zu deiner Rechten, so wird es doch dir nicht nahen.

Ja, mit eigenen Augen wirst du es schauen und die Vergeltung an den Sündern sehen.

Denn du, o Herr! bist meine Hoffnung, den Allerhöchsten hast du zu deiner Zuflucht gemacht.

Kein Unheil wird dir begegnen und keine Plage deinem Zelte nahen.

Denn er hat seinen Engeln für dich geboten, dass sie dich auf allen deinen Wegen behüten.

Auf den Händen werden sie dich tragen, dass du deinen Fuß nicht an einen Stein stoßest.

Über Nattern und Ottern wirst du hinschreiten und Löwen und Drachen zertreten.

Weil er auf mich vertraut, so will ich ihn befreien; ihn beschirmen, weil er meinen Namen kennt.

Er wird mich anrufen und ich werde ihn erhören, ich bin bei ihm in der Not, ich werde ihn retten und ihn zu Ehren bringen:

Mit langem Leben will ich ihn sättigen und ihn mein Heil schauen lassen.
