- Kapitel 81 -

Sing for joy to God

Unto the end. For the wine and oil presses. A Psalm of Asaph himself.(a)

Exult before God our helper. Sing joyfully to the God of Jacob.

Take up a psalm, and bring forth the timbrel: a pleasing Psalter with stringed instruments.(b)

Sound the trumpet at the new moon, on the noteworthy day of your solemnity,

for it is a precept in Israel and a judgment for the God of Jacob.

He set it as a testimony with Joseph, when he went out of the land of Egypt. He heard a tongue that he did not know.

He turned the burdens away from his back. His hands had been a slave to baskets.

You called upon me in tribulation, and I freed you. I heard you within the hidden tempest. I tested you with waters of contradiction.(c)

My people, listen and I will call you to testify. If, O Israel, you will pay heed to me,

then there will be no new god among you, nor will you adore a foreign god.

For I am the Lord your God, who led you out of the land of Egypt. Widen your mouth, and I will fill it.

But my people did not hear my voice, and Israel was not attentive to me.

And so, I sent them away, according to the desires of their heart. They will go forth according to their own inventions.

If my people had heard me, if Israel had walked in my ways,

I would have humbled their enemies, as if it were nothing, and I would have sent my hand upon those who troubled them.(d)

The enemies of the Lord have lied to him, and their time will come, in every age.(e)

And he fed them from the fat of the grain, and he saturated them with honey from the rock.

(a)80:1 For the winepresses, etc:Torcularibus. It either signifies a musical instrument, or that this psalm was to be sung at the feast of the tabernacles after the gathering in of the vintage.(Challoner)

(b)80:3 Even though the word ‘psalterium’ literally refers to an ancient type of musical instrument, it was used to accompany psalms and hymns. Therefore, the word also indirectly refers to the Psalter, that is, to the psalms and particularly to the psalms when they are sung or chanted or accompanied by music. The less literal translation is more meaningful.(Conte)

Singt zur Freude für Gott

Zum Ende, für die Keltern, ein Psalm Asaphs.

Frohlocket Gott, unserm Helfer, frohlocket dem Gott Jakobs!

Stimmet Gesang an und lasset die Pauken ertönen, liebliche Harfe mit der Zither!

Stoßet am Neumonde in die Posaune, am herrlichen Tage eures Festes!

Denn so ist es Gebot für Israel und eine Satzung des Gottes Jakobs.

Als ein Zeugnis hat er es festgesetzt in Joseph, als er auszog aus dem Lande Ägypten; eine Sprache die er nicht kannte, hörte er.

Er befreite seinen Rücken von den Lasten, da seine Hände dienstbar waren mit dem Lastkorbe.

In der Drangsal riefst du mich an und ich befreite dich, erhörte dich in dunkler Wetterwolke, prüfte dich bei dem Wasser des Widerspruches.

Höre mich, mein Volk! denn ich beschwöre dich, Israel! O dass du auf mich hörtest!

Es soll unter dir kein neuer Gott sein noch sollst du einen fremden Gott anbeten.

Denn ich bin der Herr, dein Gott, der dich aus Ägyptenland geführt hat, tue deinen Mund auf, und ich will ihn füllen.

Aber mein Volk hörte nicht auf meine Stimme und Israel hatte nicht acht auf mich.

Da überließ ich sie den Gelüsten ihres Herzens und sie gingen nach ihren Anschlägen dahin.

O wenn mein Volk auf mich gehört hätte, wenn Israel auf meinen Wegen gewandelt wäre,

so würde ich wohl wie ein Nichts seine Feinde gedemütigt und wider ihre Bedränger meine Hand gewendet haben.

Die Feinde des Herrn müssten ihm schmeicheln und ihre Zeit sollte ewig währen,

und er würde sie mit dem Marke des Weizens und mit Honig aus dem Felsen sättigen.
