God is our refuge and strength

(2 Kings 18:13-16; 2 Chronicles 32:1-8)

Unto the end. To the sons of Korah, for confidants. A Psalm.(a)

Our God is our refuge and strength, a helper in the tribulations that have greatly overwhelmed us.
3
Because of this, we will not be afraid when the earth will be turbulent and the mountains will be transferred into the heart of the sea.
4
They thundered, and the waters were stirred up among them; the mountains have been disturbed by his strength.(b)

The frenzy of the river rejoices the city of God. The Most High has sanctified his tabernacle.
6
God is in its midst; it will not be shaken. God will assist it in the early morning.
7
The peoples have been disturbed, and the kingdoms have been bowed down. He uttered his voice: the earth has been moved.
8
The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our supporter.
9
Draw near and behold the works of the Lord: what portents he has set upon the earth,
10
carrying away wars even to the end of the earth. He will crush the bow and break the weapons, and he will burn the shield with fire.
11
Be empty, and see that I am God. I will be exalted among the peoples, and I will be exalted upon the earth.
12
The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our supporter.

(b)45:4 The word ‘eorum’ does not refer to ‘aquæ,’ because the former is masculine and the latter is feminine. The word ‘eorum’ refers to the mountains, ‘montes’ is masculine plural, as is ‘eorum.’ So, the mountains thundered (as they were being transferred to the sea), and the waters among them (among the mountains) were stirred up.(Conte)

Gott ist unsere Zuflucht und Stärke, ein Helfer in Drangsalen, die uns hart betroffen.

Darum fürchten wir uns nicht, wenn gleich die Erde erbebte und die Berge mitten ins Meer versetzt würden.

Mögen seine Wasser toben und aufwallen und die Berge erbeben vor seiner Macht.

Eines Stromes Wogendrang erfreut die Stadt Gottes, der Allerhöchste hat seine Wohnung geheiligt.

Gott ist in ihrer Mitte, sie wird nicht wanken, frühe am Morgen hilft ihr Gott.
7
Es tobten Völker, es wankten Reiche; er ließ seine Stimme erschallen und die Erde erbebte.
8
Der Herr der Heerscharen ist mit uns; unser Schirm ist der Gott Jakobs.
9
Kommet und schauet die Taten des Herrn, welche Wunder er auf Erden gewirkt hat!
10
Der den Kriegen steuert bis ans Ende der Erde, Bogen zertrümmert und Waffen zerschlägt und Schilde in Feuer verbrennt.
11
Lasset ab und sehet, dass ich Gott bin; ich bin erhaben unter den Völkern und erhaben auf Erden.
12
Der Herr der Heerscharen ist mit uns, unser Schirm ist der Gott Jakobs.
