- Kapitel 6 -

Hearken ye nowe what the Lord sayth, Arise thou, and contende before the mountaines, and let the hilles heare thy voyce.

Heare ye, O mountaynes, the Lordes quarel, and ye mightie foundations of the earth: for the Lord hath a quarell against his people, and he will pleade with Israel.

O my people, what haue I done vnto thee? or wherin haue I grieued thee? testifie against me.

Surely I brought thee vp out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of seruants, and I haue sent before thee, Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

O my people, remember nowe what Balak King of Moab had deuised, and what Balaam the sonne of Beor answered him, from Shittim vnto Gilgal, that ye may knowe the righteousnes of the Lord.

Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bowe my selfe before the hie God? Shall I come before him with burnt offrings, and with calues of a yeere olde?

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousand riuers of oyle? shall I giue my first borne for my transgression, euen the fruite of my bodie, for the sinne of my soule?

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: surely to doe iustly, and to loue mercie, and to humble thy selfe, to walke with thy God.

The Punishment of Israel

The Lordes voyce cryeth vnto the citie, and the man of wisedome shall see thy name: Heare the rodde, and who hath appoynted it.

Are yet the treasures of wickednes in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure, that is abominable?

Shall I iustifie the wicked balances, and the bag of deceitfull weightes?

For the rich men thereof are full of crueltie, and the inhabitants thereof haue spoken lyes, and their tongue is deceitfull in their mouth.

Therefore also will I make thee sicke in smiting thee, and in making thee desolate, because of thy sinnes.

Thou shalt eate and not be satisfied, and thy casting downe shall be in the mids of thee, and thou shalt take holde, but shalt not deliuer: and that which thou deliuerest, will I giue vp to the sworde.

Thou shalt sowe, but not reape: thou shalt treade the oliues, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oyle, and make sweete wine, but shalt not drinke wine.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the maner of the house of Ahab, and ye walke in their counsels, that I should make thee waste, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall beare the reproche of my people.

Gott bittet Israel

Vernehmet, was der Herr spricht: Auf und übe Gericht gegen die Berge hin und die Hügel mögen deine Stimme hören!

Die Berge mögen das Gericht des Herrn hören und die starken Grundfesten der Erde, denn der Herr geht ins Gericht mit seinem Volke und mit Israel rechtet er.

Mein Volk! was habe ich dir getan oder womit bin ich dir lästig gefallen? Antworte mir!

Ich habe dich ja aus dem Lande Ägypten geführt und dich aus dem Hause der Dienstbarkeit befreit, ich habe Moses, Aaron und Maria vor dir hergesandt.

Mein Volk! gedenke doch, was Balach, der König von Moab, im Sinne hatte und was ihm Balaam, der Sohn Beors, erwiderte, von Setim bis nach Galgala, auf dass du die gerechten Wege des Herrn erkennest.

Was soll ich dem Herrn darbringen, das seiner würdig wäre? Soll ich das Knie beugen vor Gott, dem Höchsten? Soll ich ihm etwa Brandopfer darbringen und einjährige Rinder?

Sollte wohl der Herr versöhnt werden können durch Tausende von Widdern oder durch viele Tausende von fetten Böcken? Soll ich ihm etwa meinen Erstgebornen als Opfer für meine Missetat hingeben, meines Leibes Frucht als Schuldopfer für meine Seele?

Ich will dir kundtun, o Mensch! Was gut ist und was der Herr von dir fordert, nämlich: Recht zu üben und Barmherzigkeit zu lieben und mit Sorgfalt vor deinem Gotte zu wandeln.

Bestrafung von Israels Ungerechtigkeit

Die Stimme des Herrn ruft der Stadt zu und Heil wird denen, die deinen Namen fürchten: Höret, ihr Stämme! Aber wer wird es gutheißen?

Noch ist Feuer im Hause es Gottlosen, Schätze der Ungerechtigkeit, und zu geringes Maß erfüllt mit Zorn.

Sollte ich ungerechte Waage gutheißen und trügerisches Gewicht im Beutel?

Hierdurch sind ihre Reichen mit Unrecht erfüllt, ihre Bewohner reden Lüge und trügerisch ist die Zunge in ihrem Munde.

So fange auch ich denn an, dich deshalb mit Verderben zu schlagen um deiner Sünden willen.

Wenn du issest, sollst du nicht satt werden und deine Demütigung wird in deiner Mitte sein; wenn du nach etwas greifst, wirst du es nicht erfassen, und die du rettest, werde ich dem Schwerte preisgeben.

Wenn du säest, wirst du nicht ernten; wenn du Oliven kelterst, wirst du dich nicht mit Öl salben; wenn du Most kelterst, wirst du keinen Wein trinken.

Hast du doch die Satzungen Amris beobachtet und alles Tun des Hauses Achab und bist nach all seinen Gelüsten gewandelt, damit ich dich dem Verderben hingebe und die Bewohner derselben dem Gespött; ja, die Schmach meines Volkes sollt ihr tragen.
