And certaine women, which were healed of euill spirites, and infirmities, as Mary which was called Magdalene, out of whom went seuen deuils,

And Ioanna the wife of Chuza Herods steward, and Susanna, and many other which ministred vnto him of their substance.

The Parable of the Sower

(Matthew 13:1–23; Mark 4:1–20)

Nowe when much people were gathered together, and were come vnto him out of all cities, he spake by a parable.

A sower went out to sowe his seede, and as he sowed, some fell by the wayes side, and it was troden vnder feete, and the foules of heauen deuoured it vp.

And some fell on the stones, and when it was sprong vp, it withered away, because it lacked moystnesse.

And some fell among thornes, and the thornes sprang vp with it, and choked it.

And some fell on good ground, and sprang vp, and bare fruite, an hundreth folde. And as hee sayd these things, he cryed, He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.

Then his disciples asked him, demaunding what parable that was.

And he sayd, Vnto you it is giuen to know the secrets of ye kingdome of God, but to other in parables, that when they see, they shoulde not see, and when they heare, they should not vnderstand.

The parable is this, The seede is the worde of God.

And they that are beside the way, are they that heare: afterward commeth the deuill, and taketh away the worde out of their hearts, least they should beleeue, and be saued.

But they that are on the stones, are they which when they haue heard, receiue ye word with ioy: but they haue no rootes: which for a while beleeue, but in the time of tentation goe away.

And that which fell among thornes, are they which haue heard, and after their departure are choked with cares and with riches, and voluptuous liuing, and bring forth no fruite.

But that which fell in good ground, are they which with an honest and good heart heare the worde, and keepe it, and bring forth fruite with patience.

The Lesson of the Lamp

(Mark 4:21–25)

No man when he hath lighted a candle, couereth it vnder a vessell, neither putteth it vnder the bed, but setteth it on a candlesticke, that they that enter in, may see the light.

For nothing is secret, that shall not be euident: neither any thing hid, that shall not be knowen, and come to light.

Take heede therefore how ye heare: for whosoeuer hath, to him shall be giuen: and whosoeuer hath not, from him shalbe taken euen that which it seemeth that he hath.

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

(Matthew 12:46–50; Mark 3:31–35)

Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come neere to him for the preasse.

And it was tolde him by certaine which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, and would see thee.

But he answered, and sayd vnto them, My mother and my brethren are these which heare the worde of God, and doe it.

Jesus Calms the Storm

(Psalm 107:1–43; Matthew 8:23–27; Mark 4:35–41)

And it came to passe on a certaine day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and he sayd vnto them, Let vs goe ouer vnto the other side of the lake. And they lanched forth.

And as they sayled, he fell a sleepe, and there came downe a storme of winde on the lake, and they were filled with water, and were in ieopardie.

Then they went to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. And he arose, and rebuked the winde, and the waues of water: and they ceased, and it was calme.

Then he sayde vnto them, Where is your fayth? and they feared, and wondered among them selues, saying, Who is this that commandeth both the windes and water, and they obey him!

The Demons and the Pigs

(Matthew 8:28–34; Mark 5:1–20)

So they sailed vnto the region of the Gadarenes, which is ouer against Galile.

And as he went out to land, there met him a certaine man out of the citie, which had deuils long time, and he ware no garment, neither abode in house, but in the graues.

And when he sawe Iesus, he cryed out and fell downe before him, and with a loude voyce sayd, What haue I to doe with thee, Iesus the Sonne of God the most High? I beseech thee torment me not.

For he commanded ye foule spirit to come out of the man: (for oft times he had caught him: therefore he was bound with chaines, and kept in fetters: but he brake the bands, and was caried of the deuill into wildernesses.)

Then Iesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? and he sayd, Legion, because many deuils were entred into him.

And they besought him, that he would not commaund them to goe out into the deepe.

And there was there by, an hearde of many swine, feeding on an hill: and the deuils besought him, that he would suffer them to enter into them. So he suffered them.

Then went the deuils out of the man, and entred into the swine: and the hearde was caried with violence from a steepe downe place into the lake, and was choked.

When the heardmen sawe what was done, they fled: and when they were departed, they tolde it in the citie and in the countrey.

Then they came out to see what was done, and came to Iesus, and found the man, out of whom the deuils were departed, sitting at the feete of Iesus, clothed, and in his right minde: and they were afrayd.

They also which saw it, tolde them by what meanes he that was possessed with the deuill, was healed.

Then the whole multitude of the countrey about the Gadarenes, besought him that he would depart from them: for they were taken with a great feare: and he went into the ship, and returned.

Then the man, out of whome the deuils were departed, besought him that hee might be with him: but Iesus sent him away, saying,

Returne into thine owne house, and shewe what great things God hath done to thee. So hee went his way, and preached throughout all the citie, what great things Iesus had done vnto him.

The Healing Touch of Jesus

(Matthew 9:18–26; Mark 5:21–43)

And it came to passe, when Iesus was come againe, that the people receiued him: for they all waited for him.

And beholde, there came a man named Iairus, and he was the ruler of the Synagogue, who fell downe at Iesus feete, and besought him that he would come into his house.

For he had but a daughter onely, about twelue yeeres of age, and she lay a dying (and as he went, the people thronged him.

And a woman hauing an yssue of blood, twelue yeeres long, which had spent all her substance vpon physicians, and could not be healed of any:

When she came behind him, she touched the hemme of his garment, and immediatly her yssue of blood stanched.

Then Iesus sayd, Who is it that hath touched me? When euery man denied, Peter sayd and they that were with him, Master, the multitude thrust thee, and tread on thee, and sayest thou, Who hath touched me?

And Iesus sayde, Some one hath touched me: for I perceiue that vertue is gone out of me.

When the woman sawe that she was not hid, she came trembling, and fell downe before him, and tolde him before all the people, for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediatly.

And he said vnto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath saued thee: go in peace.)

While he yet spake, there came one from the ruler of the Synagogues house, which sayde to him, Thy daughter is dead: disease not the Master.

When Iesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Feare not: beleeue onely, and she shall be saued.

And when he went into the house, he suffered no man to goe in with him, saue Peter, and Iames, and Iohn, and the father and mother of the maide.

And all wept, and sorowed for her: but he sayd, Weepe not: for she is not dead, but sleepeth.

And they laught him to scorne, knowing that she was dead.

So he thrust them all out, and tooke her by the hand, and cryed, saying, Maide, arise.

And her spirite came againe, and she rose straightway: and he comanded to giue her meate.

Then her parents were astonied: but hee commanded them that they should tell no man what was done.

Viele Frauen dienen Jesus

Und es geschah darnach, dass er durch Städte und Flecken zog, predigend und die frohe Botschaft vom Reiche Gottes verkündigend, und die Zwölf waren mit ihm,

auch einige Frauen, die er von bösen Geistern und Krankheiten befreit hatte: Maria, Magdalena genannt, aus welcher sieben Teufel ausgefahren waren,

und Johanna, das Weib des Chusa, des Verwalters des Herodes, und Susanna und viele andere, welche ihm mit ihrem Vermögen dienten.

Das Gleichnis vom Sämann

(Matthäus 13,1-23; Markus 4,1-20)

Als aber sehr viel Volk zusammenkam und aus den Städten zu ihm herbeieilte, sprach er gleichnisweise:

Der Sämann ging aus, seinen Samen zu säen; und da er säte, fiel einiges an den Weg hin, und wurde zertreten, und die Vögel des Himmels fraßen es.

Anderes fiel auf felsigen Grund; und da es aufgegangen, verdorrte es, weil es keine Feuchtigkeit hatte.

Anderes fiel unter die Dornen, und die Dornen, die mitaufwuchsen, erstickten es.

Anderes fiel auf gute Erde, und ging auf, und gab hundertfältige Frucht. Indem er dies sagte, rief er: Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre!

Der Zweck der Gleichnisse

Es fragten ihn aber seine Jünger, was dieses Gleichnis bedeute.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Euch ist es gegeben, das Geheimnis des Reiches Gottes zu verstehen; den übrigen aber werden Gleichnisse gegeben, damit sie sehen, und doch nicht sehen, hören, und nicht verstehen.

Das Gleichnis vom Sämann erklärt

Das Gleichnis aber bedeutet dieses: Der Same ist das Wort Gottes.

Die an dem Wege hin, sind die, welche es hören, dann kommt der Teufel, und nimmt das Wort aus ihrem Herzen, damit sie nicht glauben und selig werden.

Die auf dem felsigen Grund sind die, welche das Wort mit Freuden aufnehmen, wenn sie es hören; aber sie haben keine Wurzeln, sie glauben eine Zeit lang, und zur Zeit der Versuchung fallen sie ab.

Das, was unter die Dornen fiel, sind die, welche es angehört haben, von dannen gehend aber von den Sorgen, Reichtümern und Wolllüsten des Lebens im Fortgange erstickt werden, und keine Frucht bringen.

Was aber auf die gute Erde fiel, das sind die, welche das Wort hören, und es in aufrichtigem und gutem Herzen behalten, und Frucht bringen in Geduld.

Das Gleichnis vom geoffenbarten Licht

(Markus 4,21-25)

Niemand zündet ein Licht an, und deckt es mit einem Gefäße zu, oder stellt es unter ein Bett; sondern stellt es auf einen Leuchter, damit die Eintretenden das Licht sehen.

Denn es ist nichts verborgen, was nicht offenbar würde, und nichts geheim, was nicht kund würde und an den Tag käme.

Sehet also zu, wie ihr höret. Denn wer hat, dem wird gegeben werden, und wer nicht hat, dem wird auch das genommen werden, was er zu haben vermeint.

Die Mutter und die Brüder Jesu kommen zu ihm

(Matthäus 12,46-50; Markus 3,31-35)

Es kamen aber zu ihm seine Mutter und seine Brüder, und sie konnten wegen der Volksmenge nicht zu ihm gelangen.

Und es wurde ihm berichtet: Deine Mutter und deine Brüder stehen draußen und wollen dich sehen.

Da antwortete er, und sprach zu ihnen: Meine Mutter und meine Brüder sind die, welche das Wort Gottes hören und tun.

Wind und Welle gehorchen Jesus

(Psalm 107,1-43; Matthäus 8,23-27; Markus 4,35-41)

Und es geschah an einem Tage, dass er mit seinen Jüngern in ein Schifflein stieg, und er sprach zu ihnen: Lasset uns auf das andere Ufer des See´s übersetzen! Und sie fuhren ab!

Als sie nun dahinschifften, schlief er ein. Und ein Sturmwind kam herab auf den See, und sie wurden mit Wasser überschüttet, und liefen Gefahr.

Da traten sie hin, weckten ihn auf, und sprachen: Meister! Wir gehen zu Grunde. Er aber stand auf, dräute dem Winde und dem tobenden Wasser, und sie legten sich; und es ward stille.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wo ist euer Glaube? Sie aber fürchteten sich, und sprachen voll Verwunderung zueinander: Wer ist wohl dieser, dass er auch den Winden und dem Meere gebietet, und sie ihm gehorchen?

Ein von Dämonen besessener Mann wird geheilt

(Matthäus 8,28-34; Markus 5,1-20)

Und sie schifften zur Landschaft der Gerasener, welche Galiläa gegenüber liegt.

Als er aber an das Land gestiegen war, lief ihm ein Mann entgegen, der von langer Zeit her von einem bösen Geiste besessen war, und kein Gewand an sich litt, auch in keinem Hause blieb, sondern in den Grabhöhlen.

Da dieser Jesus sah, fiel er vor ihm nieder, schrie mit lauter Stimme, und sprach: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen, Jesus, du Sohn Gottes, des Höchsten? Ich bitte dich, quäle mich nicht!

Er befahl nämlich dem unreinen Geiste auszufahren aus dem Menschen; denn seit langer Zeit hatte er ihn ergriffen, und er ward mit Ketten gebunden, und mit Fesseln verwahrt; er zerbrach aber die Bande, und ward von dem bösen Geiste in die Wüste getrieben.

Jesus nun fragte ihn, und sprach: Wie heißest du? Er sagte: Legion; denn es waren viele Teufel in ihn gefahren.

Und sie baten ihn, dass er ihnen nicht befehle, in den Abgrund zu fahren.

Es war aber daselbst eine Herde von vielen Schweinen, die auf dem Berge weideten; und sie baten ihn, dass er ihnen erlauben möchte, in diese einzufahren. Und er erlaubte es ihnen.

Da fuhren die bösen Geister aus dem Menschen, und fuhren in die Schweine; und die Herde stürmte davon, den Abhang hinab in den See, und ertrank.

Als nun die Hirten sahen, was geschehen war, flohen sie, und berichteten es in der Stadt, und in den Dörfern.

Da gingen sie hinaus, um zu sehen, was geschehen war. Und sie kamen zu Jesus, und fanden den Menschen, von dem die bösen Geister ausgefahren waren, bekleidet und bei gesundem Verstande zu den Füßen Jesu sitzen, und sie fürchteten sich.

Die aber, welche zugesehen hatten, erzählten ihnen, wie er von der Legion befreit worden.

Da bat ihn die ganze Menge des Volkes in dem Gebiete der Gerasener, er möge von ihnen weggehen, denn sie waren von großer Furcht ergriffen. Er aber stieg in das Schiff, und kehrte zurück.

Und der Mann, von welchem die bösen Geister ausgefahren waren, bat ihn, dass er bei ihm bleiben dürfe. Jesus aber hieß ihn von dannen gehen, und sprach:

Kehre zurück in dein Haus, und erzähle, welch große Dinge Gott an dir getan! Und er ging fort, durch die ganze Stadt hin laut verkündigend, welch große Dinge Jesus an ihm getan.

Ein zum Leben erwecktes Mädchen und eine geheilte Frau

(Matthäus 9,18-26; Markus 5,21-43)

Es geschah aber, als Jesus zurückkehrte, empfing ihn das Volk; denn alle warteten auf ihn.

Und siehe, es kam ein Mann, mit Namen Jairus, welcher Vorsteher der Synagoge war, und fiel Jesus zu Füßen, und bat ihn, dass er in sein Haus kommen möchte;

denn er hatte eine einzige Tochter von ungefähr zwölf Jahren, und diese lag im Sterben. Da geschah es, als er hinging, dass er vom Volk umdrängt wurde.

Und ein Weib, das seit zwölf Jahren am Blutflusse litt, und all ihr Vermögen an die Ärzte verwendet hatte, und von keinem geheilt werden konnte,

trat von rückwärts hinzu, und berührte den Saum seines Kleides; und sogleich stand der Blutfluss still.

Und Jesus sprach: Wer hat mich angerührt? Da nun alle es verneinten, sprach Petrus, und die mit ihm waren: Meister! Die Volksmenge umdrängt und stößt dich, und du sprichst: Wer hat mich angerührt?

Jesus aber sprach: Es hat mich jemand angerührt; denn ich weiß, dass eine Kraft von mir ausgegangen ist.

Da nun das Weib sah, dass sie nicht verborgen blieb, kam sie zitternd, fiel ihm zu Füßen, und entdeckte es vor allem Volke, aus welcher Ursache sie ihn angerührt habe, und wie sie sogleich geheilt worden sei.

Er aber sprach zu ihr: Tochter! Dein Glaube hat dir geholfen. Gehe hin in Frieden!

Während er noch redete, kam jemand zu dem Synagogenvorsteher, und sprach zu ihm: Deine Tochter ist gestorben, bemühe ihn nicht!

Jesus aber, der diese Rede hörte, antwortete dem Vater des Mädchens: Fürchte dich nicht, glaube nur, so wird sie leben!

Und als er in das Haus kam, ließ er niemanden mit sich hineingehen, als Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes, und den Vater und die Mutter des Mädchens.

Sie weinten aber alle, und klagten um dasselbe. Er dagegen sprach: Weinet nicht! Das Mädchen ist nicht tot, sondern schläft.

Da verlachten sie ihn, denn sie wussten, dass sie gestorben war.

Er aber nahm sie bei der Hand, und sprach mit lauter Stimme: Mägdlein, stehe auf!

Da kehrte ihr Geist zurück, und sie stand sogleich auf. Und er befahl, dass man ihr zu essen gebe.

Und ihre Eltern gerieten in Erstaunen; er aber gebot ihnen, niemanden zu sagen, was geschehen war.
