- Kapitel 13 -

(Numbers 6:1–21)

Bvt the children of Israel continued to commit wickednesse in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord deliuerd them into the handes of the Philistims fourtie yeere.

Then there was a man in Zorah of the familie of the Danites, named Manoah, whose wife was baren, and bare not.

And the Angel of the Lord appeared vnto the woman, and said vnto her, Beholde nowe, thou art baren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceiue, and beare a sonne.

And nowe therefore beware that thou drinke no wine, nor strong drinke, neither eate any vncleane thing.

For loe, thou shalt conceiue and beare a sonne, and no rasor shall come on his head: for the childe shall be a Nazarite vnto God from his birth: and he shall begin to saue Israel out of the handes of the Philistims.

Then the wife came, and tolde her husband, saying, A man of God came vnto me, and the facion of him was like the facion of the Angel of God exceeding feareful, but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name,

But he saide vnto me, Beholde, thou shalt conceiue, and beare a sonne, and nowe thou shalt drinke no wine, nor strong drinke, neither eate any vncleane thing: for the childe shalbe a Nazarite to God from his birth to the day of his death.

Then Manoah prayed to the Lord and saide, I pray thee, my Lord, Let the man of God, whome thou sentest, come againe nowe vnto vs, and teach vs what we shall doe vnto the child when he is borne.

And God heard the voyce of Manoah, and the Angel of God came againe vnto the wife, as she sate in the fielde, but Manoah her husband was not with her.

And the wife made haste and ranne, and shewed her husband and sayde vnto him, Behold, the man hath appeared vnto me, that came vnto me to day.

And Manoah arose and went after his wife, and came to the man, and saide vnto him, Art thou the man that spakest vnto the woman? and he said, Yea.

Then Manoah sayde, Nowe let thy saying come to passe: but howe shall we order the childe and doe vnto him?

And the Angell of the Lord saide vnto Manoah, The woman must beware of all that I said vnto her.

She may eate of nothing that commeth of the vinetree: she shall not drinke wine nor strong drinke, nor eate any vncleane thing: let her obserue all that I haue commanded her.

Manoah then said vnto the Angell of the Lord, I pray thee, let vs reteine thee, vntill we haue made readie a kid for thee.

And the Angel of the Lord said vnto Manoah, Though thou make me abide, I will not eate of thy bread, and if thou wilt make a burnt offring, offer it vnto the Lord: for Manoah knewe not that it was an Angel of the Lord.

Againe Manoah said vnto the Angell of the Lord, What is thy name, that when thy saying is come to passe, we may honour thee?

And the Angell of the Lord saide vnto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, which is secret?

Then Manoah tooke a kid with a meate offering, and offered it vpon a stone vnto the Lord: and the Angell did wonderously, whiles Manoah and his wife looked on.

For when the flame came vp toward heauen from the altar, the Angel of the Lord ascended vp in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife behelde it, and fell on their faces vnto the grounde.

(So the Angel of the Lord did no more appeare vnto Manoah and his wife.) Then Manoah knewe that it was an Angel of the Lord.

And Manoah said vnto his wife, We shall surely dye, because we haue seene God.

But his wife saide vnto him, If the Lord woulde kill vs, he woulde not haue receiued a burnt offring, and a meate offring of our hands, neither would he haue shewed vs all these things, nor would now haue tolde vs any such.

And the wife bare a sonne, and called his name Samson: and the childe grewe, and the Lord blessed him.

And the Spirite of the Lord beganne to strengthen him in the host of Dan, betweene Zorah, and Eshtaol.

(4. Mose 6,1-21)

Da nun die Söhne Israels wieder taten, was in den Augen des Herrn böse war, gab er sie in die Hand der Philister vierzig Jahre hindurch.

Es war aber ein Mann von Saraa, vom Stamme Dan, mit Namen Manue, dessen Weib war unfruchtbar.

Dieser erschien der Engel des Herrn und sprach zu ihr: Du bist unfruchtbar und kinderlos; aber du wirst empfangen und einen Sohn gebären;

hüte dich also, Wein und starkes Getränk zu trinken, oder etwas Unreines zu essen!

Denn du wirst empfangen und einen Sohn gebären, dessen Haupt kein Schermesser berühren soll; denn er soll von Kindheit auf, vom Mutterleibe an, ein Nazaräer Gottes sein; und er wird anfangen, Israel aus der Hand der Philister zu befreien.

Als sie zu ihrem Manne kam, sprach sie zu ihm: Ein Mann Gottes kam zu mir, sein Angesicht war wie das eines Engels, und sein Aussehen sehr furchtbar. Und da ich ihn fragte, wer er sei und woher er komme, und wie er heiße, wollte er es mir nicht sagen,

sondern antwortete nur dies: Siehe, du wirst empfangen, und einen Sohn gebären, so hüte dich, Wein oder starke Getränke zu trinken oder etwas Unreines zu essen; denn der Knabe soll ein Nazaräer Gottes sein von Kindheit auf, vom Mutterleibe an, bis zum Tage seines Todes.

Da betete Manue zu dem Herrn und sprach: Ich bitte, Herr! der Mann Gottes, den du gesandt, möge auch einmal kommen und uns belehren, was wir mit dem Knaben tun sollen, der geboren werden soll!

Und der Herr erhörte das Gebet Manues, und der Engel Gottes erschien seinem Weibe wieder, während sie auf dem Felde saß. Manue aber, ihr Mann, war nicht bei ihr. Da sie nun den Engel sah,

lief sie eilends zu ihrem Manne und verkündete ihm: Siehe, der Mann ist mir erschienen, welchen ich vorhin gesehen habe.

Da machte er sich auf und folgte seinem Weibe; und als er zu dem Manne kam, sprach er zu ihm: Bist du es, der zu dem Weibe gesprochen hat? Er antwortete: Ich bin es.

Manue sprach zu ihm: Wenn sich dein Wort erfüllt hat, was soll der Knabe tun, oder wovon soll er sich enthalten?

Der Engel des Herrn sprach zu Manue: Von allem, was ich deinem Weibe angezeigt habe, soll er sich enthalten.

Nichts, was vom Weinstocke kommt, soll er genießen. Wein und starkes Getränk soll er nicht trinken, nichts Unreines essen; und was ich ihm geboten habe, soll er erfüllen und beobachten.

Da sprach Manue zu dem Engel des Herrn: ich bitte, erfülle noch meine Bitte; wir wollen dir ein Ziegenböcklein zubereiten.

Doch der Engel entgegnete ihm: Wenn du mich auch nötigtest, würde ich deine Speise doch nicht essen; willst du aber ein Brandopfer herrichten, so bringe es dem Herrn dar. Manue wusste nämlich nicht, dass es der Engel des Herrn sei.

Und er sprach zu ihm: Wie heißest du, damit wir dich ehren, wenn dein Wort in Erfüllung gegangen ist?

Der Engel antwortete ihm: Warum fragst du nach meinem Namen? Er ist Wunderbar.

Da nahm Manue ein Ziegenböckchen und Trankopfer und legte diese auf einem Felsen nieder und brachte sie dem Herrn dar, welcher wunderbare Dinge tut; er aber und sein Weib schauten zu.

Als nun die Flamme vom Altare zum Himmel aufstieg, fuhr auch der Engel des Herrn in der Flamme empor. Da Manue und sein Weib dies sahen, warfen sie sich auf ihr Angesicht zur Erde nieder.

Und da der Engel des Herrn sich ihnen nicht mehr zeigte, erkannte Manue alsbald, dass es der Engel des Herrn war,

und sprach zu seinem Weibe: Wir müssen des Todes sterben, denn wir haben Gott gesehen!

Das Weib antwortete ihm: Wenn der Herr uns töten wollte, so hätte er nicht aus unsern Händen das Brandopfer und Trankopfer angenommen, noch uns dies alles sehen lassen, noch uns gesagt, was da kommen soll.

Sie gebar also einen Sohn und nannte ihn Samson. Und der Knabe wuchs heran, und der Segen des Herrn ruhte auf ihm.

Und der Geist des Herrn fing an, mit ihm zu sein im Lager von Dan zwischen Saraa und Esthaol.
