- Kapitel 9 -

Then the Lord said vnto Moses, Go to Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Ebrewes, Let my people go, that they may serue me.

But if thou refuse to let them goe, and wilt yet holde them still,

Beholde, the hande of the Lord is vpon thy flocke which is in the fielde: for vpon the horses, vpon the asses, vpon the camels, vpon the cattell, and vpon the sheepe shalbe a mightie great moraine.

And the Lord shall doe wonderfully betweene the beastes of Israel, and the beastes of Egypt: so that there shall nothing dye of all, that pertaineth to the children of Israel.

And the Lord appointed a time, saying, To morowe the Lord shall finish this thing in this lande.

So the Lord did this thing on the morow, and all the cattel of Egypt dyed: but of the cattell of the children of Israel dyed not one.

Then Pharaoh sent, and beholde, there was not one of the cattell of the Israelites dead: and the heart of Pharaoh was obstinate, and hee did not let the people goe.

The Sixth Plague: Boils

And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron, Take your handfull of ashes of the fornace, and Moses shall sprinkle them towarde the heauen in the sight of Pharaoh,

And they shall be turned to dust in all the land of Egypt: and it shalbe as a scab breaking out into blisters vpon man, and vpon beast, thorow out all the land of Egypt.

Then they tooke ashes of the fornace, and stoode before Pharaoh: and Moses sprinkled them towarde the heauen, and there came a scab breaking out into blisters vpon man, and vpon beast.

And the sorcerers could not stande before Moses, because of the scab: for the scab was vpon the enchanters, and vpon all the Egyptians.

And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not vnto them, as the Lord had said vnto Moses.

The Seventh Plague: Hail

Also the Lord said vnto Moses, Rise vp early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Ebrewes, Let my people goe, that they may serue me.

For I will at this time send all my plagues vpon thine heart, and vpon thy seruants, and vpon thy people, that thou mayest knowe that there is none like me in all the earth.

For nowe I will stretch out mine hande, that I may smite thee and thy people with the pestilence: and thou shalt perish from the earth.

And in deede, for this cause haue I appointed thee, to shewe my power in thee, and to declare my Name throughout all the world.

Yet thou exaltest thy selfe against my people, and lettest them not goe.

Beholde, to morowe this time I will cause to raine a mightie great haile, such as was not in Egypt since the foundation thereof was laid vnto this time.

Send therefore nowe, and gather the cattell, and all that thou hast in the fielde: for vpon all the men, and the beastes, which are found in the field, and not brought home, the haile shall fall vpon them, and they shall die.

Such then as feared the word of the Lord among the seruants of Pharaoh, made his seruants and his cattell flee into the houses:

But such as regarded not the worde of the Lord, left his seruants, and his cattell in the fielde.

And the Lord saide to Moses, Stretche foorth thine hande towarde heauen, that there may be haile in all the land of Egypt, vpon man, and vpon beast, and vpon all the herbes of the fielde in the lande of Egypt.

Then Moses stretched out his rod towarde heauen, and the Lord sent thunder and haile, and lightening vpon the ground: and the Lord caused haile to raine vpon the land of Egypt.

So there was haile, and fire mingled with the haile, so grieuous, as there was none throughout all the lande of Egypt, since it was a nation.

And the haile smote throughout al ye land of Egypt all that was in the fielde, both man and beast: also ye haile smote all the herbes of ye field, and brake to pieces all the trees of the fielde.

Onely in the lande of Goshen (where the children of Israel were) was no haile.

Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said vnto them, I haue now sinned: the Lord is righteous, but I and my people are wicked.

Pray ye vnto the Lord (for it is ynough) that there be no more mightie thunders and haile, and I will let you goe, and yee shall tarie no longer.

Then Moses saide vnto him, Assoone as I am out of the citie, I will spreade mine hands vnto the Lord, and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more haile, that thou mayest knowe that the earth is the Lordes.

As for thee and thy seruants, I knowe afore I pray ye will feare before the face of the Lord God.

(And the flaxe, and the barley were smitten: for the barley was eared, and the flaxe was bolled.

But the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were hid in the grounde)

Then Moses went out of the citie from Pharaoh, and spred his hands to the Lord, and the thunder and the haile ceased, neither rained it vpon the earth.

And when Pharaoh sawe that the raine and the haile and the thunder were ceased, hee sinned againe, and hardened his heart, both he, and his seruants.

So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened: neither would he let the children of Israel goe, as the Lord had said by Moses.

Die fünfte Plage: Viehseuchen

Der Herr aber befahl Moses: Gehe hin zu Pharao und sage zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir Opfer bringe!

Wenn du dich aber noch weigerst und sie zurückhältst,

siehe, so soll meine Hand über deine Äcker kommen und deine Pferde und Esel, und Kamele, und Rinder und Schafe, eine sehr schwere Pest befallen.

Und der Herr wird wunderbar scheiden zwischen dem, was Israel gehört, und dem Eigentume der Ägypter, so dass von allem, was den Söhnen Israels gehört, durchaus nichts zu Grunde gehen wird.

Und der Herr setzte eine Frist und sprach: Morgen wird der Herr dies an dem Lande tun.

Der Herr also erfüllte diese Drohung am folgenden Tage, und alles Vieh der Ägypter fiel; aber von dem Viehe der Söhne Israels ging nicht ein Stück zu Grunde.

Da sandte Pharao Boten hin, um nachzusehen; da war kein Stück von dem gefallen, was Israel gehörte. Aber Pharaos Herz verstockte sich und er ließ das Volk nicht ziehen.

Die sechste Plage: Furunkel

Hierauf sprach der Herr zu Moses und Aaron: Nehmet beide Hände voll Asche aus dem Ofen, und Moses streue sie vor den Augen Pharaos zum Himmel empor,

und Staub falle über das ganze Land Ägypten; denn es sollen Geschwüre entstehen an Menschen und Vieh, und aufbrechende Beulen, im ganzen Lande Ägypten.

Da nahmen sie Asche aus dem Ofen und traten vor Pharao hin, und Moses streute sie gegen den Himmel; und es entstanden aufbrechende Beulen mit Geschwüren an Menschen und an Tieren.

Selbst die Zauberer konnten nicht vor Moses erscheinen wegen der Geschwüre, mit denen sie behaftet waren, wie das ganze Land Ägypten.

Doch der Herr verhärtete das Herz Pharaos, und er hörte nicht auf sie, wie es der Herr zu Moses gesagt hatte.

Die siebte Plage: Hagel

Da sprach der Herr zu Moses: Mache dich auf des Morgens und tritt vor Pharao, und sage zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: Lass mein Volk ziehen, dass es mir Opfer bringe!

Denn dieses Mal werde ich alle meine Plagen über dein Herz, und über deine Diener, und über dein Volk kommen lassen, damit du erkennest, dass meines Gleichen nicht ist auf der ganzen Erde.

Denn würde ich jetzt meine Hand ausstrecken und dich und dein Volk mit der Pest schlagen, so würdest du von der Erde vertilgt werden.

Aber dazu habe ich dich bestimmt, dass ich meine Macht an dir erweise, und dass mein Name auf der ganzen Erde gepriesen werde.

Hältst du mein Volk noch zurück und willst es nicht ziehen lassen?

Siehe, morgen zu eben dieser Stunde werde ich einen sehr schweren Hagelschlag niederfallen lassen, wie ein solcher in Ägypten nicht dagewesen ist, seit dem Tage, an dem es gegründet ward, bis jetzt.

Schicke daher sogleich hin und lasse dein Vieh und alles, was du auf dem Felde hast, hereinbringen; denn Menschen, und Vieh, und alles, was im Freien getroffen wird und nicht von dem Felde hereingeholt ist, wird dieser Hagel treffen und es wird sterben.

Wer nun unter den Dienern Pharaos diese Drohung des Herrn fürchtete, ließ seine Knechte und sein Vieh in die Häuser flüchten;

wer aber die Drohung des Herrn nicht beachtete, ließ seine Knechte und sein Vieh auf dem Felde.

Da sprach der Herr zu Moses: Strecke deine Hand zum Himmel empor, dass Hagel falle im ganzen Lande Ägypten auf die Menschen und auf die Tiere, und auf alles, was im Lande Ägypten auf dem Felde gewachsen ist.

Da streckte Moses seinen Stab zum Himmel empor, und der Herr ließ Donner und Hagel entstehen, und Blitze zur Erde niederfahren; und der Herr ließ Hagel auf das Land Ägypten fallen.

Hagel mit Feuer gemischt kam zugleich herab, und zwar von solcher Größe, wie seines Gleichen zuvor nie im ganzen Lande Ägypten gesehen ward, seit jenes Land besteht.

Und der Hagel schlug im ganzen Lande Ägypten alles nieder, was auf dem Felde war, Menschen wie Tiere; alles, was auf dem Felde gewachsen war, schlug der Hagel nieder, und alle Bäume des Landes zerbrach er.

Nur im Lande Gessen, wo die Söhne Israels waren, fiel kein Hagel.

Da sandte Pharao hin, und ließ Moses und Aaron rufen, und sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe auch dieses Mal gefehlt. Der Herr ist gerecht, ich und mein Volk aber Gottlose.

Betet zu dem Herrn, dass Gott die Donner und den Hagel aufhören lasse, so will ich euch ziehen lassen, und ihr sollt nicht länger hier bleiben.

Moses sprach: Wenn ich zur Stadt hinausgegangen bin, will ich meine Hände zu dem Herrn ausstrecken, und dann werden die Donner aufhören und der Hagel wird nicht mehr fallen, damit du erkennest, dass die Erde dem Herrn gehört.

Aber ich weiß, du und deine Diener, ihr fürchtet euch noch nicht vor Gott, dem Herrn.

So wurden denn Flachs und Gerste vernichtet, denn die Gerste stand schon in Ähren und der Flachs trieb schon Knospen;

der Weizen und der Spelt aber wurden nicht beschädigt, weil sie erst später kommen.

Hierauf ging Moses von Pharao hinweg aus der Stadt und streckte seine Hände aus zu dem Herrn; und alsbald hörte der Donner und der Hagel auf, und es fiel kein Tropfen Regen mehr auf die Erde.

Als aber Pharao sah, dass Regen und Hagel und Donner aufgehört hatten, fuhr er fort zu sündigen;

denn sein und seiner Diener Herz ward verstockt und überaus hart; und er ließ die Söhne Israels nicht ziehen, wie der Herr es durch Moses vorausgesagt hatte.
