- Kapitel 118 -

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good

1
Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is forever.
2
Let Israel now say: For he is good, for his mercy is forever.
3
Let the house of Aaron now say: For his mercy is forever.
4
Let those who fear the Lord now say: For his mercy is forever.
5
In my tribulation, I called upon the Lord. And the Lord heeded me with generosity.
6
The Lord is my helper. I will not fear what man can do to me.
7
The Lord is my helper. And I will look down upon my enemies.
8
It is good to trust in the Lord, rather than to trust in man.
9
It is good to hope in the Lord, rather than to hope in leaders.
10
All the nations have surrounded me. And, in the name of the Lord, I have been avenged over them.
11
Surrounding me, they closed in on me. And, in the name of the Lord, I have been avenged over them.
12
They surrounded me like a swarm, and they burned like fire among the thorns. And, in the name of the Lord, I have been avenged over them.
13
Having been pushed, I was overturned so as to fall. But the Lord took me up.
14
The Lord is my strength and my praise. And he has become my salvation.
15
A voice of exultation and salvation is in the tabernacles of the just.
16
The right hand of the Lord has wrought virtue. The right hand of the Lord has exalted me. The right hand of the Lord has wrought virtue.
17
I will not die, but I will live. And I will declare the works of the Lord.
18
When chastising, the Lord chastised me. But he has not delivered me over to death.
19
Open the gates of justice to me. I will enter them, and I will confess to the Lord.
20
This is the gate of the Lord. The just will enter by it.
21
I will confess to you because you have heard me. And you have become my salvation.
22
The stone which the builders have rejected, this has become the head of the corner.(a)
23
By the Lord has this been done, and it is a wonder before our eyes.
24
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us exult and rejoice in it.
25
O Lord, grant salvation to me. O Lord, grant good prosperity.
26
Blessed is he who arrives in the name of the Lord. We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.
27
The Lord is God, and he has enlightened us. Establish a solemn day amid a dense crowd, even to the horn of the altar.(b)
28
You are my God, and I will confess to you. You are my God, and I will exalt you. I will confess to you, for you have heeded me. And you have become my salvation.
29
Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is forever.

(a)117:22 The Latin phrase translated as ‘head of the corner’ is a Latin translation of the same Hebrew expression. It is a fitting description of Christ, since He is the Head of all Creation. It can also be translated as ‘cornerstone.’(Conte)
(b)117:27 The word ‘condensis’ often refers to a dense thicket of woods. However, in this context (of something dense like a thicket of trees that reaches even to the altar) the meaning is clearly of a thick crowd attending a solemn ceremony.(Conte)

Es sage also Israel: Er ist gütig, in Ewigkeit währt seine Gnade!

Es sage also das Haus Aaron: In Ewigkeit währt seine Gnade!

Es mögen also alle, die den Herrn fürchten, sagen: In Ewigkeit währt seine Gnade!

Aus der Trübsal rief ich zu dem Herrn und der Herr erhörte mich und stellte mich auf freien Raum.

Der Herr ist mein Helfer, ich fürchte nichts, was könnte mir ein Mensch tun?

Der Herr ist mein Helfer, ich werde auf meine Feinde herabschauen.

Besser ist es, auf den Herrn zu vertrauen als sich auf Menschen zu verlassen.

Besser ist es, auf den Herrn zu hoffen als auf Fürsten seine Hoffnung zu setzen.

Alle Völker umgaben mich, aber im Namen des Herrn räche ich mich an ihnen.

Sie schlossen mich ringsum ein, aber im Namen des Herrn räche ich mich an ihnen.

Sie umschwärmten mich wie Bienen und loderten auf wie Feuer in Dornen; aber im Namen des Herrn räche ich mich an ihnen.

Ich ward gestoßen und ward ins Wanken gebracht, dass ich niederstürzen sollte, aber der Herr half mir.

Der Herr ist meine Stärke und mein Lob, denn er ward mir zum Heile.
15
Rufe des Jubels und des Heiles ertönen in den Hütten der Gerechten.

Die Rechte des Herrn hat große Taten verrichtet, die Rechte des Herrn hat mich erhöht, die Rechte des Herrn hat große Taten verrichtet.
17
Ich werde nicht sterben, sondern leben und die Werke des Herrn verkünden.
18
Schwer hat mich der Herr gezüchtigt, aber hat mich dem Tode nicht preisgegeben.
19
Machet mir auf die Pforten der Gerechtigkeit! Ich will durch sie eingehen und den Herrn preisen.
20
Dies ist die Pforte des Herrn, die Gerechten gehen durch dieselbe ein.
21
Ich preise dich, dass du mich erhört hast und mir zum Heile geworden bist.
22
Der Stein, den die Bauleute verworfen haben, er ist zum Ecksteine geworden.
23
Vom Herrn ist dies geschehen und wunderbar ist es in unsern Augen.
24
Dies ist der Tag, den der Herr gemacht hat; lasset uns frohlocken und fröhlich an ihm sein!
25
O Herr! errette mich, o Herr! gib Gelingen.
26
Gesegnet sei, der da kommt, im Namen des Herrn; wir segnen euch von dem Hause des Herrn aus!
27
Der Herr ist Gott und hat uns Licht gespendet. Haltet einen Festtag mit dichtbelaubten Zweigen bis hinauf an die Hörner des Altars!
28
Du bist mein Gott, ich will dich preisen; mein Gott bist du, ich will dich erheben! Ich will dich preisen, denn du hast mich erhört und bist mir zum Heile geworden.
29
Danket dem Herrn, denn er ist gütig, denn seine Gnade währt ewig.
