- Kapitel 27 -

(Mark 15:1–5)

Then, when morning arrived, all the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so that they might deliver him to death.

And they led him, bound, and handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the procurator.

Judas Hangs Himself

(Zechariah 11:10–17)

Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he had been condemned, regretting his conduct, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the leaders of the priests and the elders,(a)

saying, “I have sinned in betraying just blood.” But they said to him: “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”

And throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And going out, he hanged himself with a snare.

But the leaders of the priests, having taken up the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the temple offerings, because it is the price of blood.”(b)

Then, having taken counsel, they bought the potter’s field with it, as a burying place for sojourners.

For this reason, that field is called Haceldama, that is, ‘The Field of Blood,’ even to this very day.

Then what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one being appraised, whom they appraised before the sons of Israel,

and they gave it for the potter’s field, just as the Lord appointed to me.”

Jesus before Pilate

(Luke 23:1–5; John 18:28–40)

Now Jesus stood before the procurator, and the procurator questioned him, saying, “You are the king of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You are saying so.”

And when he was accused by the leaders of the priests and the elders, he responded nothing.

Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how much testimony they speak against you?”

And he did not respond any word to him, so that the procurator wondered greatly.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas

(Mark 15:6–11; Luke 23:13–25)

Now on the solemn day, the procurator was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whomever they wished.

And at that time, he had a notorious prisoner, who was called Barabbas.

Therefore, having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it that you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?”

For he knew that it was out of envy they had handed him over.

But as he was sitting in the place for the tribunal, his wife sent to him, saying: “It is nothing to you, and he is just. For I have experienced many things today through a vision for his sake.”(c)

But the leaders of the priests and the elders persuaded the people, so that they would ask for Barabbas, and so that Jesus would perish.

Then, in response, the procurator said to them, “Which of the two do you want to be released to you?” But they said to him, “Barabbas.”

Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do about Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified.”

The procurator said to them, “But what evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let him be crucified.”

Pilate Washes His Hands

(Mark 15:12–15)

Then Pilate, seeing that he was able to accomplish nothing, but that a greater tumult was occurring, taking water, washed his hands in the sight of the people, saying: “I am innocent of the blood of this just man. See to it yourselves.”

And the entire people responded by saying, “May his blood be upon us and upon our children.”

Then he released Barabbas to them. But Jesus, having been scourged, he handed over to them, so that he would be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

(Isaiah 50:4–11; Mark 15:16–20; Luke 22:63–65; John 19:1–15)

Then the soldiers of the procurator, taking Jesus up to the praetorium, gathered the entire cohort around him.

And stripping him, they put a scarlet cloak around him.

And plaiting a crown of thorns, they placed it on his head, with a reed in his right hand. And genuflecting before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews.”

And spitting on him, they took the reed and struck his head.

And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak, and clothed him with his own garments, and they led him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion

(Psalm 22:1–31; Mark 15:21–32; Luke 23:26–43; John 19:16–27)

But as they were going out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, named Simon, whom they compelled to take up his cross.

And they arrived at the place which is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.

And they gave him wine to drink, mixed with gall. And when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it.

Then, after they had crucified him, they divided his garments, casting lots, in order to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying: “They divided my garments among them, and over my vestment they cast lots.”

And sitting down, they observed him.

And they set his accusation above his head, written as: This is Jesus, king of the Jews.

Then two robbers were crucified with him: one on the right and one on the left.(d)

But those passing by blasphemed him, shaking their heads,

and saying: “Ah, so you would destroy the temple of God and in three days rebuild it! Save your own self. If you are the Son of God, descend from the cross.”

And similarly, the leaders of the priests, with the scribes and the elders, mocking him, said:

“He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him descend now from the cross, and we will believe in him.

He trusted in God; so now, let God free him, if he wills him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ”(e)

Then, the robbers who were crucified with him also reproached him with the very same thing.

The Death of Jesus

(Psalm 22:1–31; Mark 15:33–41; Luke 23:44–49; John 19:28–30)

Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over the entire earth, even until the ninth hour.

And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”

Then certain ones who were standing and listening there said, “This man calls upon Elijah.”

And one of them, running quickly, took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and he set it on a reed and he gave it to him to drink.

Yet truly, the others said, “Wait. Let us see whether Elijah will come to free him.”

Then Jesus, crying out again with a loud voice, gave up his life.(f)

And behold, the veil of the temple was torn into two parts, from top to bottom. And the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split apart.

And the tombs were opened. And many bodies of the saints, which had been sleeping, arose.

And going out from the tombs, after his resurrection, they went into the holy city, and they appeared to many.

Now the centurion and those who were with him, guarding Jesus, having seen the earthquake and the things that were done, were very fearful, saying: “Truly, this was the Son of God.”

And in that place, there were many women, at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.

Among these were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

The Burial of Jesus

(Isaiah 53:9–12; Mark 15:42–47; Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38–42)

Then, when evening had arrived, a certain wealthy man from Arimathea, named Joseph, arrived, who himself was also a disciple of Jesus.

This man approached Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be released.

And Joseph, taking the body, wrapped it in a clean finely-woven linen cloth,

and he placed it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and he went away.

Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulcher.

The Guards at the Tomb

Then the next day, which is after the Preparation day, the leaders of the priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate together,(g)

saying: “Lord, we have remembered that this seducer said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days, I will rise again.’

Therefore, order the sepulcher to be guarded until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples may come and steal him, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ And this last error would be worse than the first.”

Pilate said to them: “You have a guard. Go, guard it as you know how.”

Then, going out, they secured the sepulcher with guards, sealing the stone.

Übergabe Jesu an Pontius Pilatus

(Markus 15,1-5)

Als es aber morgen geworden war, hielten alle Hohenpriester und Ältesten des Volkes Rat wider Jesus, um ihn zu Tode zu bringen.

Und sie führten ihn gebunden hin und übergaben ihn dem Landpfleger Pontius Pilatus.

Judas erhängt sich

(Sacharja 11,10-17)

Da Judas, der ihn verraten hatte, jetzt sah, dass er verurteilt war, ward er von Reue ergriffen, und er brachte die dreißig Silberlinge den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten zurück,

indem er sprach: Ich habe gesündigt, da ich unschuldiges Blut verraten habe. Sie aber sprachen: Was geht das uns an? Da siehe du zu!

Da warf er die Silberlinge in den Tempel hin, entfernte sich, ging hin, und erhängte sich mit einem Stricke.

Die Hohenpriester aber nahmen die Silberlinge und sprachen: Es ist nicht erlaubt, sie in den Tempelschatz zu legen, da es Blutgeld ist.

Sie hielten also Rat, und kauften für dieselben den Acker des Töpfers zum Begräbnisse für die Fremden.

Deswegen wird jener Acker Hakeldama, das ist Blutacker, genannt, bis auf den heutigen Tag.

Da ward erfüllt, was durch den Propheten Jeremias gesprochen worden, da er sagt: Und sie nahmen die dreißig Silberlinge, den Preis des Geschätzten, welchen sie geschätzt hatten von Seiten der Söhne Israels,

und gaben sie hin für den Acker des Töpfers, wie der Herr mir aufgetragen hat.

Jesus steht vor Pilatus

(Lukas 23,1-5; Johannes 18,28-40)

Jesus aber stand vor dem Landpfleger, und der Landpfleger fragte ihn, und sprach: Bist du der König der Juden? Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es!

Und als er von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten angeklagt wurde, antwortete er nichts.

Da sagte Pilatus zu ihm: Hörst du nicht, welch große Dinge sie wider dich bezeugen?

Doch er antwortete ihm nicht auf sein Wort, so dass der Landpfleger sich sehr verwunderte.

Er nimmt den Platz von Barabbas ein

(Markus 15,6-11; Lukas 23,13-25)

Auf den hohen Festtag aber war der Landpfleger gewohnt, dem Volke einen Gefangenen frei zu geben, welchen sie wollten.

Nun hatte er damals einen berüchtigten Gefangenen, der Barabbas hieß.

Da sie also versammelt waren, sprach Pilatus: Welchen wollt ihr, soll ich euch freigeben? Den Barabbas, oder Jesus, der Christus genannt wird?

Denn er wusste, dass sie ihn aus Neid überantwortet hatten.

Während er aber auf den Richterstuhle saß, schickte sein Weib zu ihm, und ließ sagen: Mache dir nichts mit diesem Gerechten zu schaffen; vieles habe ich heute im Träume gelitten um seinetwillen.

Allein die Hohenpriester und die Ältesten überredeten das Volk, den Barabbas zu begehren, Jesus aber zu verderben.

Der Landpfleger aber entgegnete, und sprach zu ihnen: Welchen von den zweien wollet ihr euch freigegeben haben? Sie sagten: Den Barabbas.

Pilatus sprach zu ihnen: Was soll ich also mit Jesus machen, der Christus genannt wird?

Da riefen alle: Er soll gekreuziget werden! Der Landpfleger sprach zu ihnen: Was hat er denn Böses getan? Sie aber schrieen noch mehr, und sprachen: Er soll gekreuziget werden!

(Markus 15,12-15)

Als nun Pilatus sah, dass er nichts ausrichte, sondern der Lärm größer werde, nahm er Wasser, wusch seine Hände vor dem Volke, und sprach: Ich bin unschuldig an dem Blute dieses Gerechten; sehet ihr zu!

Und das ganze Volk antwortete, und sprach: Sein Blut komme über uns und unsere Kinder!

Alsdann gab er ihnen den Barabbas frei; Jesus aber ließ er geißeln, und überlieferte ihnen denselben, damit er gekreuziget würde.

Die Soldaten verhöhnen Jesus

(Jesaja 50,4-11; Markus 15,16-20; Lukas 22,63-65; Johannes 19,1-15)

Da nahmen die Soldaten des Landpflegers Jesus zu sich hinein in das Richthaus, und versammelten um ihn die ganze Schar.

Und sie zogen ihn aus, und legten ihm einen scharlachroten Mantel um,

und flochten eine Krone aus Dornen, setzten sie auf sein Haupt, und gaben ihm ein Rohr in seine rechte Hand. Und sie bogen das Knie vor ihm, verspotteten ihn, und sprachen: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden!

Und sie spieen ihn an, nahmen das Rohr, und schlugen ihn auf das Haupt damit.

Und nachdem sie ihn verspottet hatten, nahmen sie ihm den Mantel ab, legten ihm seine Kleider an, und führten ihn fort, um ihn zu kreuzigen.

Der König am Kreuz

(Psalm 22,1-31; Markus 15,21-32; Lukas 23,26-43; Johannes 19,16-27)

Als sie aber hinausgingen, fanden sie einen Mann von Cyrene, mit Namen Simon; diesen nötigten sie, sein Kreuz zu tragen.

Und sie kamen an einen Ort, welcher Golgotha, das ist Schädelstätte, genannt wird.

Und sie gaben ihm Wein, der mit Galle vermischt war, zu trinken. Und als er davon gekostet hatte, wollte er nicht trinken.

Nachdem sie ihn aber gekreuziget hatten, verteilten sie seine Kleider, indem sie das Los darüber warfen, damit erfüllt würde, was durch den Propheten gesagt worden, da er spricht: Sie haben meine Kleider unter sich geteilt und über mein Gewand das Los geworfen.

Und sie setzten sich nieder und bewachten ihn.

Und über seinem Haupte hefteten sie seine Schuld an als Inschrift: Dieser ist Jesus, der König der Juden.

Da wurden mit ihm zwei Räuber gekreuzigt, einer zur Rechten, und der andere zur Linken.

Die Vorübergehenden aber lästerten ihn, schüttelten ihre Köpfe,

und sprachen: Ha, du, der du den Tempel Gottes abbrichst und ihn in drei Tagen wieder aufbauest, hilf dir selbst; wenn du der Sohn Gottes bist, steige herab von dem Kreuze!

Gleicherweise höhnten auch die Hohenpriester, samt den Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten, und sprachen:

Andern hat er geholfen, sich selbst kann er nicht helfen. Ist er der König von Israel, so steige er nun herab vom Kreuze, und wir glauben ihm.

Er vertraute auf Gott, er befreie ihn nun, wenn er ein Wohlgefallen an ihm hat; denn er sagte ja: Ich bin Gottes Sohn!

Dasselbe warfen ihm auch die Räuber vor, die mit ihm gekreuziget worden waren.

Jesus stirbt am Kreuz

(Psalm 22,1-31; Markus 15,33-41; Lukas 23,44-49; Johannes 19,28-30)

Von der sechsten Stunde an aber entstand eine Finsternis über die ganze Erde bis zur neunten Stunde.

Und um die neunte Stunde rief Jesus mit lauter Stimme und sprach: Eli, Eli, lamma, sabachtani? Das ist: Mein Gott, mein Gott! Warum hast du mich verlassen?

Einige aber, welche dort standen und dies hörten, sprachen: Den Elias ruft dieser da.

Und alsbald lief einer von ihnen, nahm einen Schwamm, füllte ihn mit Essig, steckte ihn an ein Rohr, und gab ihm zu trinken.

Die übrigen aber sprachen: Halt, wir wollen sehen, ob Elias kommt, ihn zu befreien.

Jesus aber rief wiederum mit lauter Stimme und gab den Geist auf.

Und siehe, der Vorhand des Tempels zerriß in zwei Stücke von oben bis unten; und die Erde bebte, und die Felsen spalteten sich,

und die Gräber öffneten sich, und viele Leiber der entschlafenen Heiligen standen auf.

Und nach seiner Auferstehung gingen sie aus den Gräbern hervor, kamen in die heilige Stadt, und erschienen vielen.

Da aber der Hauptmann und diejenigen, welche bei ihm waren und Jesus bewachten, das Erdbeben und das, was sonst geschah, sahen, fürchteten sie sich sehr und sprachen: Wahrlich, dieser war Gottes Sohn!

Es waren aber dort viele Frauen von ferne, welche Jesus aus Galiläa gefolgt waren, um ihn zu bedienen.

Unter diesen war Maria Magdalena, Maria, die Mutter des Jakobus und Joseph, und die Mutter der Söhne des Zebedäus.

Jesus wird in Josephs Grab begraben

(Jesaja 53,9-12; Markus 15,42-47; Lukas 23,50-56; Johannes 19,38-42)

Als es aber Abend geworden war, kam ein reicher Mann von Arimathäa, mit Namen Joseph, welcher auch selber ein Jünger Jesu war.

Dieser ging zu Pilatus und bat um den Leichnam Jesu. Da befahl Pilatus, den Leichnam herauszugeben.

Und Joseph nahm den Leib, wickelte ihn in reine Leinwand,

und legte ihn in sein neues Grab, welches er in dem Felsen hatte aushauen lassen. Und er wälzte einen großen Stein vor die Türe des Grabes und ging hinweg.

Es waren aber daselbst Maria Magdalena und die andere Maria, und saßen dem Grabe gegenüber.

Pilatus stellt eine Wache auf

Am andern Tage aber, welcher auf den Rüsttag folgt, versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und Pharisäer bei Pilatus

und sprachen: Herr! Wir haben uns erinnert, dass jener Verführer, als er noch lebte, gesagt hat: Nach drei Tagen werde ich auferstehen!

Befiehl also, dass man das Grab bis zum dritten Tage bewache, damit nicht etwa seine Jünger kommen und ihn stehlen, und dem Volke sagen: Er ist von den Toten auferstanden! Und es wird der letzte Betrug schlimmer sein als der erste.

Pilatus sprach zu ihnen: Ihr habt eine Wache; gehet, haltet Wache, wie es euch gut dünkt.

Sie aber gingen hin und verwahrten das Grab mittelst der Wächter, nachdem sie den Stein versiegelt.
